1977 C10 AC not working, solution suggestions

Hi all. I've got a 77 C10 350 with factory air that has a leak. I generally am a warm weather person, but with summers getting hotter every year I want to get it addressed before my pup bursts into flames on the way to the park. I took it to a shop and the guy said the compressor is bad...

I need help and to know what this truck is worth

I would pass. You'd have to pay me to take it, and I'd probably pass on that, too. These trucks are getting more expensive, but they still aren't that hard to find. To me, that's a parts truck.

    Deleting the Catalytic Converter

They do benefit me, and it seems the new ones can be had for a reasonable price. My truck is not a race truck. It isn't fast and it will never be fast (and doesn't currently have the original cat on it as it stands), so I don't care about performance gains. That said, there's no wrong answer...

    Deleting the Catalytic Converter

Agreed. I'm sure you can find someone who is not running one and you can smell for yourself. Mine is a 77 longbed that the PO welded straight pipes (actual pipe, not tubing) onto, so no cat. My opinion is that it doesn't smell great, especially now with the corn mixed in our fuel, but it's...

Thanks for saving the good stuff

1984 C10 305 stall at low speeds, loss of power during accel

I can't get to mine with the air cleaner on either, so I just go a tad richer when setting it because I'm no rocket scientist :)

Seriously bummed with this drivetrain setup right now :(

If it helps any, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one doing everything at least twice. Recently working on rear drum rebuilds, got one apart, realized my 11"x 2" replacements were the wrong size so I had to put it back together, get the 2 3/4" shoes and bigger drums, get them rebuilt and...

1984 C10 305 stall at low speeds, loss of power during accel

So the stall issue is fixed with the carb rebuild, which makes sense given the problem with the speed bump. Probably dislodged some gunk that clogged a passage or needle, and now you're in the clear. Current problem is the idle. You mentioned the mixture screws, but not the idle speed screw...

    Dumb question - what is this? (77 C10 350)

Thanks all That would be great. How much do you want for it? An upgrade for AC is in my future, but for now, I have to keep the original. It's blazing hot here in Houston, need to get something blowing

    Dumb question - what is this? (77 C10 350)

Hey all. Wondering what this thing is. It had a manifold vacuum line coming from the carb on it, but seeing as how it's half made of duct tape, I just plugged the vac line. It's up on the passenger side firewall. Thanks

    POR 15 Hi Temp coating....Fail!

I haven't delved too far into it, they don't have a lot of info posted. The instructions it does have don't mention a cure procedure, so hopefully just getting it hot will work (easy enough for headers).

    POR 15 Hi Temp coating....Fail!

I have never found POR-15 to be all that great. I have been looking for a solution for high temp coatings for a while, but haven't actually had a part to test product on while I've been looking. I'll have a motorcycle engine coming up, but seeing as how I have to fabricate the motorcycle that...

    Steering rebuild question

Steering play on mine is adjusted on the back of the gearbox, before install. The adjuster on the other end for the pitman arm adjusts how hard the wheel is to turn, but doesn't adjust play.

    1977 C10 Silverado 350/T350 - reverse issue

Hi all. Having trouble with reverse first thing in the morning. I shift into reverse but it doesn't engage. Eventually slips in when I give it gas, then it's fine the rest of the day. Fluid and filter are fine. Previous owner had it rebuilt in 2016. I thought maybe some vaccuum issue, but I...

Please Help me get this truck going!

If it's got an IACV, I would also suggest cleaning that out and making sure it's working.

77 C10 350 valve clatter during long drives

Thanks. The pan I can drop and clean just for good measure, maybe the valve too once I find it. I don't have a tach, but I think I bought an oil pressure gauge from HF to test my erstwhile F150.

77 C10 Silverado Longbed spring rates

I'll take a look tomorrow, I was going by what the PO told me. I don't understand what you mean about not affecting travel though, the truck is lower to the ground, that limits the suspension travel by the amount of the drop. If it's a 100 lb/in spring and there's 200lbs of weight on a rear...

77 C10 350 valve clatter during long drives

Hi all. I have an issue driving more than an hour. Oil pressure gauge drops a couple marks from full on the gauge and I get valve clatter. When it's cold, it's fine. 45min drive, it's fine. Hr+, not fine. Any ideas? I'm using chevron delo 400 oil. Thanks

77 C10 Silverado Longbed spring rates

Thanks. RockAuto has multiple options, but no listed spring rates or even way to tell what is the stock spring for my truck. Dropping the truck doesn't affect the spring rate, but it does affect suspension travel while also preloading the spring and shock. My truck is a work truck, I can't...

77 C10 Silverado Longbed spring rates

Does anyone know what the stock spring rates are for the front and the rear leaf springs? PO lowered mine I think 1" or 1.5" with spindles but didn't change springs or shocks. I'd like to try and get the ride tuned a bit. Thanks

    steering box adjustment

That adjustment moves the pitman arm up and down. To get rid of slack, there is a spanner nut on the gearbox where the input shaft is. Loosen that and adjust it there.
