    Modified engine crewcab gas mileage?

How do you install a lockup converter on a 400??? I have seen the kits to modify a 400 for a lockup converter. It’s intended for big money class type racing, with huge by large, money is no object race cars. The lockup converter kits cost enough to buy 2 gear venders, with money left over. It...

    Modified engine crewcab gas mileage?

Unless you’re making 800hp, you don’t NEED a built 400 or 4L80. Either one in good condition will handle easily handle 500plus hp with nothing more than a fairly cheap valve body kit. And unless the 400 you’re using is a 71 or older model, it’s going to have the weaker roller clutch direct...

    Modified engine crewcab gas mileage?

No lockup converter, and more expensive than a junkyard 4L80 build.

    I’m pretty pissed!!

Rough country said with the relocation brackets, the ball joint geometry is basically as it was stock, just everything is moved down 4 inches. No need for new control arms. My son and I spent all morning at our local salvage yard. We removed 11 control arms from wrecked trucks before finding...

    Fuel Miser Torque Converters

It Hughes, I would expect quality. I wouldn’t expect miracles, but I would bet it performs exactly as advertised.

    I’m pretty pissed!!

Interesting! Ill look into that before fooling with junkyard parts.

    I’m pretty pissed!!

I agree, why pay a premium when you can buy the same junk for significantly less?? It just really chaps my ass. Their penny pinching has left me with a big problem that doesn’t have a realistic solution. I can’t use their product without the seemingly unobtainium parts. My options: #1 Buy...

    I’m pretty pissed!!

The lift kit is basically relocation brackets that bolt where the factory control arms went, with new mounting brackets 4 inches lower. It also includes relocation brackets for the torsion bar crossmember, and front differential. It has blocks for the rear springs. I really haven’t modified...

    I’m pretty pissed!!

My son and I have been finishing up some of the winter upgrades to his 92 Yukon. Some of the upgrades include: Rebuilt transmission Rebuilt differentials with 4.56 gears 4 inch lift kit to go with the 36 inch tires. New dashboard to replace the crumbing original. Heated rear glass...

    Loose timing chain replacement

Rotate the engine until the dots are lined up, remove the old chain WITHOUT moving the cam or crank. As long as you install the chain exactly as it was removed you should be good. Be sure to check and reset the ignition timing, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to verify the ring on the balancer...

What’s the best way to fix/clean up this wiring problem?

Go to your nearest salvage yard, get a junction block from a newer truck. Run ONE large power cable from the battery to the junction block. Make sure to protect it with a fusible link or fuse with a high enough rating. Then run all your accessories to the junction block, again use fuses to...

Trailer wiring on a 77 K5? How do I do that?

Crap, I took a screen shot of that exact part, but forgot to share it. That solves part of the no cutting trailer harness issue, the OP wants a 7 pin plug.

please recommend a transmission dipstick that isn’t junk.

Last time I needed a dipstick I ordered one from summit. It was around 45 bucks, and didn’t use those junk orings. The boot type seals are MUCH more forgiving.

Trailer wiring on a 77 K5? How do I do that?

To put a 7 way trailer plug on that is going to take some minor wiring. I don’t think they ever offered a factory tow package with 7 pin trailer plugs. If the taillight harness is intact, cutting it would be a last resort. And if you do cut it, DO NOT USE CHEAP BUTT CONNECTORS!! Use good...

1985 C20: Carb not getting fuel

I have no clue how much fuel a Q-Jet float bowl will actually hold. I’m guessing a 1/4 cup or so.

1985 C20: Carb not getting fuel

Fill the float bowl with fuel. Try and start it. With the float bowl full, it should run long enough to pull fuel from the tank. If not, check the fuel lines. Make sure you don’t have one kinked, or corroded.

Tq converter for 5.3 ls swap in a 700r4

I agree. Seems counter productive to upgrade to a modern engine and give it a lobotomy with a carb. Especially considering how expensive those ignition computers can be, they aren’t much cheaper than a pcm to do everything.

Instrument cluster questions on new build

There are different sending units based on gauge readings. Meaning a gauge that reads to 60psi, requires a 60psi sending unit. I ran into this years ago with a Grand Prix I had. The factory gauge registered to 80, the 455 Olds I swapped in had a 60psi sender. The gauge was NOT accurate. If...

Need help with my freshly rebuilt carb

It’s been 30 years since I messed with setting the mixture control solenoid on those carbs. If I remember correctly, there is a green connector somewhere near the carb where you put the dwell meter. Basically, you raise the engine rpm to 2500 (I think) and set the metering rod stops so the dwell...

    Under Dash Wiring Mystery

It’s been a while since I put cruise on my truck. Let’s see how good my memory is!! The connector with the pink, black and yellow wires are part of the cruise control harness. It uses the signal from the vss to command the servo for throttle position. Somewhere in that cruise harness will be...

    TransGo shift kit install...

Those pans with the cooling fins work well, but are a pain in the ass to clean. All the clutch debris collects under those tubes where you can’t get to it. As for the leak, there are lots of other places the fluid could be coming from. Look around the dipstick tube, the kickdown cable...

High oil pressure after replacing pump

There’s nothing to worry about with your oil pressure. If it will ease your mind, next time you change the oil, cut open the oil filter. Look in the pleats, if you see no metallic debris, relax. Use tin snips to cut the filter open, it’s hard to tell what is engine debris from shavings from a...

    rough idle

If you ran it out of gas, and the problem started immediately after refueling and restarting, it’s probably got some trash in the tank or lines that got stirred up after refueling. You might be able to clear the crap out of the float bowl by pinching closed the rubber supply line to the pump...

    Under Dash Wiring Mystery

The ribbon cable on the green book leads up to the optical speed sensor inside the speedo head. There is a wheel with slots cut into it, the optical speed sensor counts how many times it “sees” the windows in a certain amount of time. It then uses that to calculate speed. The 3 wire connector...
