    If the priming tool works for one side but not the other, what makes you think it is defective? How long are you trying to prime? Do you have a SBC manual that shows the oiling route? Are both galley plugs behind the cam gear present?

    Try 1) acetone or lacquer thinner, 2) easy off oven cleaner, 3) heat gun & putty knife 4) one of those scotch brite things on a drill. I don't think there is an easy way. :cheers:

    Buy the rosette rivets from ebay, buy a rivet gun, use the plates with clean paperwork. There is no need to get any state officials involved, they don't care about a 35+ year old, plain jane, nothing rare or special vehicle. Don't overthink, K.I.S.S.

    A car style bell housing for a muncie might not fit around a 12" flywheel/clutch that should be in front of the sm465. :cheers:

    The 5 in my garage all have 3 bolts and are from '86 or older BBC & SBC. I thought the main difference is the location of the timing mark. I could be wrong, I am old. :happy160:

    I will neither confirm or deny that I have done a similar swap in MA. The "rosette" style rivets came from ebay. Make sure you can get a title from the donor vehicle first.

    Did you check out the "can this be welded?" string in the technical section? Might be what your diff looks like.

    I've used a 1/2" ryobi impact for a few years has not failed me yet. I also use a torque wrench on lug nuts, just in case. :cheers:

    It's a spicer diff from a polaris ranger w/a diesel, used by a nearby ski slope for hauling guns & hoses up and down the mountain. The gear oil looked like never seize and blew an inspection hole in the case. The pinion nut loosened and walked back into the carrier then locked up the rear end...

    Will a 1-3/4" filler from a '87 bed fit the '78 bed? You might be able to get a radiator hose with the two sizes. :cheers:
