    Vintage Air Firewall Installation

There is a heater control valve that goes inline of one of them, but the more I look at this mess the more I am thinking the same thing. There is a place locally that makes custom pressure hoses (including AC) for anything. I'm taking some of these VA fittings there tomorrow AM and see if we...

    Vintage Air Firewall Installation

I put some masking tape down then stuck the plate on with rare Earth magnets - leveled it - didnt move. Took a sharp pencil and traced the 5 holes. Used a compass and found dead center on all of them. An 1/8" drill for starters and those holes are exactly located and sized where the plate would...

    Vintage Air Firewall Installation

I think these are the holes they used (lines up perfectly with the bracket). They were factory holes covered by the new plate. The spacers are to bring it out enough that it doesn't hit the bulkhead under the windshield. I would love to get the lines ready to go but this box isn't going in...

The holes for mounting the airbox are on the panel?

    Vintage Air Firewall Installation

Yes - non AC kit. I have to replace the roof skin - the back of the cab angle doesn't match up well so am having a shop do it in a couple months. Fella there (80 yrs old....hands down the best in the area) said he's done these before and you have to tweak the joining parts a bit - I'm not going...

Mine? Sort of. Was a dealer installed mess that was missing half its components. But nothing OE.

    Vintage Air Firewall Installation

Were the 2 holes for the air box mount hard to locate? Were they original holes or something they had included with that panel? Not having a dash in the way makes this a whole lot easier. lol

    Vintage Air Firewall Installation

So I'm getting the holes drilled and such for the VA air it will eventually have - with no dash in the way its alot easier. They give you a plate/template for the heater and ac hoses. Mine has a block off for the whole right side (cleaner looking). I transferred the hole location to the firewall...

In regards to your question on brackets - are you talking about the ones that the bar attaches to for the transfer case? I have the same truck and thats the only brackets I can see in that area.

Save some money on power window kits

I have heard that these power conversions are configured differently than OE and will allow speakers in the doors without interfering with the actuator. ?! Dunno.

I think they also suggest it on the passenger side as the cable is more likely to reach to that side.

Here's their sheet on it. I have used free flo cats many times - they make great resonators and look purtee for areas that require them in inspections.

So 6-10" back from the collector (I believe they say passenger side)? There will be alot more than 18" behind it. THX!

What have you done to your square lately??

@Keith Seymore Keith - do you recall them using this at assembly? If so, what did they use and how did they apply it? THX

What have you done to your square lately??

I measured and can do 4 strips of sound deadening with 4-6 longer strips of the foam in between. Biggest issue with the softer (which I would prefer) is a 40 SECOND work time. Only idea I have if I can figure the distance between the 2 panels, making a cap of some sort to make the foam strips...

What have you done to your square lately??

They have 3 formulas - one is a glue for the original stuff. Another is softer-flexible with a really short working time; and another is hard with a long working time. These original loafs are so old I cant tell if they're spongey-dried out or just plain hard and wore out? Kind of like me.

What have you done to your square lately??

I'm going to find the depth of these blobs and see if there is any kind of foam close to that size - maybe 1/8 or so taller for support? I know there is alot of issues with oil canning on metal roofs for buildings and they use some sort of small cell foam. Cant find anything on it. I would reuse...

What have you done to your square lately??

Being these things are stamped out of coke cans, I'm well aware of their fragility. It didn't stop the extreme oil canning before. Whats weird is every one of these I see with the skin removed, there was just 4 strips of tar-papered sound deadener or a panel of some sort of wafer board.

What have you done to your square lately??

Its begun. It didn't even have any sound deadening - just 4 loafs of some sort of foam-turds. Thats going away as well.
