    I am putting a slider in the rear. My truck has had one since we bought it in 1988. I have removed and installed it a few times over the years. I also have done the front glass once myself. For the extra $75 them glass guy charges for labor I let them do it.

    Settling on timing

    No offense intended but why would you spend money rebuilding an engine and not replace your balancer? You can buy a timing light with an advance adjustment. If the knob is at 10 deg BTDC the timing mark will show up at zero with 10 deg BTDC. Much easier than trying to see the little numbers.

    What made me so mad about the scraps of roofing felt was they do not mention what the material is on their site and they are literally scraps. For what you charged me, try and make it look good. Cut them to the proper size. Make an effort.

    Drop them with the brackets. They bolt from inside the frame. The brackets are not the same front and rear. The repro brackets fit pretty good. If you buy the tank isolator kit(s) from LMC just know you are getting scraps of roofing felt. I got hosed by this. Ended up buy some 1/16". x 2"...

    Timing marks

    Get yourself a timing light with an advance dial on it. If you want 10 degrees BTDC then just set it to 10 and when it lines up with the zero mark you are good to go.

    I am with @backwoodsman. Add a good water separator and drive it. Back in those days diesel was real dirty too. It was dark colored and cloudy. Now diesel is much cleaner. No worse than the 6.2

    1983 AC Lines

    You might find just buying a kit from vintage air is your best bet. The firewall is different on a non-A/C truck, you need brackets, pulleys, etc. Then you need to figure out hoses. Buy a kit and your life including getting spare parts is much easier.

    2 piece front drive shaft loose

    Take it to a driveshaft place and have it fixed. Make sure to tell them the truck is lifted. I am sure they will be able to tell from the damage how long to make it. Just had both my driveshafts done. Rear - u-joints replaced and balanced. Front - Joints replaced and a new trunnion installed.

    New Truck TBI Diag 1987

    Did you put the bulb into the wrong hole. TBI trucks do not have a choke. My 1987 GMC has a Check Engine Light. I think it says Service Engine Soon If you have no Check Engine light with the key on engine off. You have an issue. Need to resolve that before you can get it to run.
