Help with trying to Identify a 400 ci sbc

Thanks for the help, went back to look at it today but forgot my glasses, wtf. The balancer looks to be a 350. I got the ID pad cleaned off but without the glasses it was useless.

Help with trying to Identify a 400 ci sbc

I looked at a rough 78 k10 today and the SPID said it was originally a 400ci 4brl. I looked for the pad behind the alternator but wasn't able to see anything. what's another way to tell it apart from a 350 if when I go back and still can't confirm the number.

    78 c10 headlight bezel / black inside

Is there a difference between the non painted and painted besides the paint? There's a pair in Lancaster Pa on Marketplace, guy won't ship or I'd own them. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/505410046643137/?surface=messenger_banner

    Engine Won't Start

If adding fuel to carb and starting fluid doesn't fire it up even a little then it's not a fuel issue and more likely a spark issue. I'd pull a plug or two and check the condition and see if they have spark. Are they wet? I just went through the same thing, I flooded it... plugs smelled of gas...

Help!! I need a trick to free up a motor.

Well I changed the starter and ran a new ground to the block and it turns over like it should. I figured I'd change out the plugs and wires while I was under the hood. Fired right up and ran pretty damn nice once it warmed up (no choke).. Thanks again to everyone who helped me out!!

Proper Batt. to Starter Wire Routing?

I noticed the battery hot runs between the motor mount crossmember and the manifold on my 78 k10 and it's pretty tight and I need to change it. What's the proper way to run it? go along the frame and down or down and under the crossmember?

After wire brushing I used Osphos, a rust converter, then a self etching primer and some rattle can semi gloss black paint. It's been two years and still looks good.

    Transfer Case Vin?

I couldn't find anything doing a search but was wondering if a transfer case has a partial vin stamped in it like a tranny or motor?

Do ya mean neg cable to pos post? I'm not sure what would cause a pulsating draw except a flasher.

Help!! I need a trick to free up a motor.

Ok one more question, while researching the fuel in the oil issue I've read that a torn or damaged fuel pump diaphragm will pump gas into the crank. Can it do this and still pump enough to the carb to run the motor? and if it's damaged will it syphon fuel out of the tank until the tank is empty...

I want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions, I'm not sure when I'll get back to it with the cold weather setting it, but I'll update what I find when I do. Thanks again

    Frame doesn’t look quite right

I don't see anything from here that stands out to me. front frame ends are pointed so it's an earlier unit. check around the power steering box location for cracks and maybe see if there's a partial vin stamped in the passenger frame rail. Looks to be missing a rad support on the drivers side...

Help!! I need a trick to free up a motor.

I should have, but no, I was at the ring gear trying by hand. I use to be able to do it when I was young. I threw the plugs back in and it turned over better than before, then it slowed down to to a crawl. I'll bite the bullet for a new starter and see what happens. Also sourcing some new...

yeah, I just throw in new oil, pulled the plugs and it spins like a top. I'm leaning toward bad starter now. And it must be me, but I still can't move the crank by hand,
