What have you done to your square lately??

Parts stores used to be where car guys or people who grew up with mechanics or a family shop, went to work if they didn't want to work in the family shop. But that was when the majority of them were independent operations, and the only national chain was NAPA and they franchised local stores. My...

    Steering column interchange??

The truck column is the same from '73-83. In '84 is when the box on the side for the infamous multi function switch started, but from what I recall of our square body Burbs ('79,'84, and '90, all with tilt column) the wheel seems to be about the same place on the early and later styles. '93...

    New Squarebody Guy NJ

Love the Burb, welcome from Houston! First Burb I was ever around much was the one my best friend in third grade's Mom had...red and white '74 with a 454 and saddle tan interior. She was field trip Mom for our class, most of the kids could fit in it! They bought it to haul their Holiday Rambler...

Yup 3K sounds a bit inflated to me too....

Widest tire using stock 15x8 rallies

We had 30-9.50R15 Michelin TRX tires on the stock alloys on our first '99 C1500 Burb, on it when we got it. IIRC those are 7" wide wheels, and they fit fine. Apparently in the mid 2000s that was a common tire upgrade for those OBS Burbs because I saw a lot of them then.

    1978 k30 hydroboost

Check the accumulator can on the booster...they get loose sometimes, and then the unit has NO reserve power. But it sounds more like a bad MC to me too. Also check all your lines for cracks, leakage, damage....

    1978 k30 hydroboost

This isn't on a square body truck, but the next generation GMT 400.... On my '97 C3500 Crew Cab, I had the Hydroboost unit replaced in 2022 and it cost around $1000 at a good shop(a not good shop charged me $600 and they didn't install it correctly or bleed it right so it only lasted two weeks)...

Nashville New Guy with a '77 C20 Silverado

That little piece on the steering wheel is the chef's kiss, to the whole design. Not just 50 shades of black plastic/iPads like modern trucks....

What have you done to your square lately??

Yup, medium duty had some different trim, just like the square ones. But the OBS/400s they had the 3500HD at 15K gvwr, and the Topkick for the mediums.

Nashville New Guy with a '77 C20 Silverado

Nice truck! I have fond memories of these interiors; Dad's 75 Sierra Classic had this but in green. No factory tach dash but he built a bracket to mount a Sun tach on the A pillar(wayyyy before Pillar Pods were a thing). And he had an AM/FM stereo with an 8 track deck, great for cranking Foghat...

What have you done to your square lately??

You can use a small pocket knife or pen knife under the edge of the hose too, if you can get that tool in the space. Picks or hooks or small straight blade screwdrivers (I have a couple I also use for popping wiring harness plugs loose) also work well.

    GMC-IH

46-48 Buick IIRC.....I have a pair of those that Dad bought at a swap meet decades ago, gonna use em as side markers on my old truck project.

Can anyone tell me about this step bumper? (Aftermarket?)

Could be..... I do know back then, the 8600+# gvwr trucks were not required to have any airbags.

Can anyone tell me about this step bumper? (Aftermarket?)

My Crew Cab was built in the beginning of the model year; late September '96 as a '97 model. I suspect that it was special ordered because of some of the equipment it has....but it wouldn't surprise me if by 1997 the government wanted a proper bumper on the rear of a light truck unless it was...

Those are pretty rare, they just made em for a couple of years. The NBS pickup with that option is fairly rare too.

I Spy A Cool GM Truck

I want to say that GM discontinued the 2 door full size SUV with the end of the GMT 400s, because by this point Phord and Dodge had already ceased production of theirs, and the sales for those models decreased every model year. They should have brought a fullsized truck based SUV back to compete...

Widest tire using stock 15x8 rallies

We ran LR60/15 on the 78 Sierra shop truck, on 15x8 factory wagon wheels...back in the early 80s. I think that translates to a 255/70 now? Most tire stores would/should be able to help with this....

    New to Squarebody's. Need assistance

Almost like the gold ish metallic color my Crew Cab is.... Rawhide Metallic. Chevy called it that in one of the VIN number reports I had done, the other one called it Light Autumnwood Metallic. A couple years later, Light Autumnwood Metallic was the GMC name for what Chevy called Pewter...

    Good Lord, It's a couple of Fords (1964 Ford 2000 & 1949 8N)

Isn't that anything with that particular four letter word on it..... I say this as I'm waiting on my Chevy truck to get fixed at the shop....

    New Old Guy from Alabama

Old trucks like to do that....they can be "attention hogs". On the other hand, once you get the bugs worked out, you have a much better truck than the new ones.

Aluminum wheels that work with stock length studs?

Yup I have a set that will go on my Crew Cab once the front end work is done. The OBS center cap will fit too.
