So I'm nearing the end of the mild performance rebuild on my 350 small block. I got a set of headers and I was wondering if the stock style starter would fit. It's a good starter and I won't be needing anything high-torque, but should i get a mini starter anyway. I'm running low on time before I wanted to have this truck done, and I'd rather find out now than when I'm in a sit-up position for 10 minutes wondering why my starter won't go on.

Still running my stock starter 20+ years later. It was a PITA to change when I did years ago (2001-2002?) Other than that NP

I've used the Powermaster (#9612) starter for many years. Very reliable and have adjustable clocking for header clearance. Their alternators are really good, as well.

If your starter works, I'd run it.

If you need to change it, the 96-2000 Vortec starters are the ticket.

If 100 bucks for a starter strains the budget, I'd probably not start on a full rebuild, and maybe keep it milder with a cam and intake.

I agree, the '95-up starters are a great choice.

I've seen many of those adjustable mini starters die an early death. Or they were only adjustable in a way that fought for clearance with the header or the block or something else.
