It's about to get interesting based on everyone's suggestion of jumping the starter. Once we try that we'll have a fried solenoid and other burnt wires to diagnose. :badger_1:
Okay , I also have remote start switches and I think every tech at every shop I've worked at had one. It clips to your battery hot lead at the starter and engages the solenoid, I've just gotten too lazy to go grab one every time I need to crank an engine from under the hood.In 35 years of working at independent shops, dealerships, franchise shops, I've never seen a vehicle damaged by someone shorting the starter or using a remote start switch.I suppose that's because I was working at dealerships franchises etc. With people that knew which wires to cross. Maybe a tip I shouldn't pass on to just anyone.

With the remote switch I’m sure he’d be fine. It just seems like the handy Phillips screwdriver is always readily available. And that’s what’s most commonly used. A good point to add sir.

I usually use a quarter.a quarter is usually Even even handier than a Phillips screwdriver. Now wait , if I usually use a quarter and your saying a Phillips screwdriver is most common, there's only 2 possible scenarios.Either your wrong and the Phillips isn't the most common, or I've been doing this wrong. Yep that's probably it.

I was considering most common “tool” used. Honestly the quarter is new to me. I can think of a few vehicles where I’d never get my hand close enough for a quarter. ( I’m often called banana hands)
Also If I’m doing this with a hot engine ... a quarter could suck.

I was only kidding man.but if the son of a bitch won't crank or start how's it going to get hot. The starters I can't reach easy with a quarter I get one of my remote switches, but I can get to most with a quarter.Again I was just playing , have a great day banana hands.

Naw I figured as much.. o_O
and as I mention some of us a crazy enough to use the jumping technique as a consistent starting method.

IT WOULD be nice to know how the OP faired tho. No response from him since the original post.

I think you guys already know what I'm going to say. Yea, sure a person can do a lot of damage if they hit ground (frame, engine block ect) when jumping across a starter solenoid. On the other hand it is routinely done at shops, my shop included. I'm in the screw driver camp, when I do it, it is most commonly with a screw driver, I also own a remote start switch, but hardly ever use it just because when I'm in the parking lot trying a car to run to bring it in the shop I ussually have a screw driver on me but not the remote start switch.

*yawn*

We ain't got nothing else better to talk about on this board? Must be kinda slow if we're all pokin around in some noob's starter thread..haha:(

No no we don't. I just didn't see that much activity, or at least that much interesting activity over the weekend. So now we have 21 posts on a no crank thread, the OP only posted once in the beginning, who knows if he's fixed it and driving it or not.....

Yes it would be nice, common courtesy not to ghost us after so many of us have tried to help him, and this is his first thread on this board ever....

LOL Thanks for that I needed a laugh.

I don't know if you know but it's been slow at my shop. So for the past 3 weeks I've been helping out farmers with their harvests either driving their trucks, or mine. So for three weeks now I've barely been at work other than to stop by see how it's going and give some guidance if needed. Each day I'd pick up paper work to do at home so I wouldn't be over whelmed when I got back. Well now I'm back and caught up. Yea, starting engines with a quarter sounds like something to do at least....

You could always detail the undercarriage.

Why did he said Banana Hands?

I thought the **** is bananas?

I used to have a special Trans Am starting screwdriver and it too was a Philips.

Coincidence?

Well it's evening now so time for another kind of screwdriver!

Banana hands and potato thumbs... Once a long, long time ago I tried to be involved in music and was the road manager for a band, the keyboard / organ player was a damn good player, but he called himself potato thumbs occasionally. Hadn't thought about that in years....

Jacob, pro tip. If you ask a question that you’re expecting advice or suggestions, it’s customary to follow along and actually update what you’ve tried and report back.
Have you jumped the solenoid, bypassed the NSS or the ignition switch yet.
