Found an '87 R10 last month on craigslist while perusing for a miracle. It was 80k original miles, sold once in '87 the year it was originally bought with 2,700 miles, spent about 10 years unregistered presumably as a farm truck and then was registered each year after with an average of 1,200 miles a year on the odometer readings.

The reason I was looking at a squarebody truck like this was we use to have one when I grew up in Virginia mowing lawns with my dad. I had some cash from a previous truck sale to use towards fixing up this truck.

The previous owner was 90 so the last 10 years the truck has not had many miles added to the odometer. From what I've told it set under a carport most of the time on a treed property.

The day after I purchased it I put it in for a paint job. It took twice the time expected but I'm very happy with the outcome. Because the truck's body was in such good shape I opted not to fix any of the dents in the body and instead leave them in for character. I'm very happy in the choice since the combination of gloss black and a smooth body end up with a mirror like surface on a lot of the truck.

The truck is still sitting on the factory springs as best I can tell. Looking to upgrade them to get clearance for 33" tires. TBD.

Sounds like a real find. Bet the original owners manual was in the glove box?

All of us want to meet you and your new truck next April in Sanger.

@oldretiredafguy definitely coming in April.

The owners manual was in the glovebox with the original owners signature on something from the dealership. Now that ac is running I can dig in a bit more.

Here is a picture of when I picked it up. Mostly a clean body besides that passenger door. I didn't pay enough attention to how much work that door had done or I'd have replaced it before painting, but oh well.

It appears to have the factory bed rails. My 87 had those on when I bought it.
A rare option and are usually gone. Mine are now in the attic.

Indeed it does. I'm debating what I should do with them since they have a wood trim. Also dual gas tanks and power everything. Kinda cool.

This truck looks pretty good as is. Or was? RIP two-tone?

Yeah that pictures doesn't really do the old paint job justice as it looks better in that pic than it was. I'll see if I can find one of the other side. it could have gone on without a paint job but the passenger door and a few areas had some cheap touch up paint that was a different color.

I didn't go back to two tone just due to the cost. I went black and original body figuring one day if I or someone wants to take it back two tone the original body is all there.

Bed Rails are a keeper. Even if you don't mount them.

For sure. I had the bedliner done and asked them to install the rails but they didn't want to drill the fresh bedliner to reinstall them. I was considering striping the wood part black but then I looked at how much a replacement set of rails cost and maybe I should just store them in the garage for now :)
