Welcome! That’s a nice truck, I like the premise of that setup. A hot 292 would be cool and maybe see what your gearing combo is and adjust to have better highway manners. My apologies that you like Ford, but they did make some good cars and trucks and tractors. Even though they didn’t build it, the 7.3 PSD is probably my favorite diesel, and they held onto their classic truck styling until ‘97, which was the best looking truck between the Big 3 in the mid-90s IMO. The ‘78 and ‘79 Broncos are gems, but if you continue liking this truck, maybe see about a square body Blazer/Jimmy. They’re equally practical, built equally like tanks, but they’re considerably more attractive than a 1980-96 Bronco IMO.

I’m in Mississippi, too, and if you want a good 81-91 style OEM hood, I’ve got one in the Wesson/Brookhaven area to get you started. I’ve also got a pair of 1980-97 Big Dooley fenders for a Ford if you or someone you know needs those. All that stuff is taking up space that I need for other things.

Thank you very much! I have friends that live in Brookhaven, guys I worked with on jobs with Brown and Root.

I don't need the parts now, thanks though. I will have to get the complete front clip for the conversion, and these guys are about to talk me out of that, haha. Even if I did decide to do it, it's way off.

My dad has a very early 1999 m/y F-250 with the 7.3L on its original drivetrain at 345k. It needs a mechanical update/upgrade (new turbo, rebuilt transmission, that's about it), but it still runs and drives pretty decently. He bought it in 1998 not long after the separated Super Duty line hit the lots.

I have always liked the K5/Jimmy. I think they're ripe for a comeback. Give me the GMC with the stacked headlights front clip, and I'd be very happy!

However, the Bronco I'm interested in is the all-new vehicle about to be introduced as soon as Corona Extra is over. The Jeep Wrangler competitor, like the original Bronco was. My plan is a two door with the removable hard top, manual transmission (likely paired with the 2.3L Turbo, which is fine with me). But, of course we don't know the actual specifications until its debut.

(4 door preproduction vehicle pictured, but you get the idea)

Well, this morning, I guess a fuse has blown. I've got no headlights, brake lights, dash lights, etc. I think I see the fuse, but I don't have one like it.

I grew up in a Ford family. So of course my first vehicle was an 86 k20.
I've always owned Bowties.

I know what you mean about the stacked lights on the 81+ squares. All of mine have the quads.
2 k5's and a R10, all Silverado spec.

Glad to see they brought back the Bronco and it's a SUV. Not what they did with the new Blazer, CUV.
I'd drive a raptor if they gave me one.

I don't think it liked being talked about that way. In the same breath as "Furd"! ! ! It is just getting back at you. They are sensitive children.

I replaced the fuse and it blew again. I think it's the way the lighting for the auxiliary gauges was done. I'm waiting for my brother to come look at it.

Thats my absolute favorite front end of these trucks! I love that inset grille! I learned how to drive in a 73' c10 step side with a 250 straight 6, no PS or PB. I love it!

Welcome to Chevy Truck Land! Nice old basic truck you have there.

As for Fords, my last daily drivers were a 2011 F150 and now a 2016 Mustang GT. Both were/have been rock solid reliable. On the other hand my wife's new 2014 Acadia, which we had hoped to keep for 7-8 years, probably went in for repairs 10-12 times over a 4 year/ 58K mile period. The straw that broke the camel's back was a leaking PS hose that took out the PS pump, and maybe even the rack. I'll never know because we traded it in before we paid AT LEAST $2,200 for the repairs. And that was only a year after I paid around $1,000 to get the radio/nav unit replaced! She now has a Japanese SUV which has been literally 100% reliable for 2.5 years/30K miles. NoMoGM for me!

BTW, I've always lusted after a 350hp AWD Focus RS. Car & Driver called it a "Fire-breathing shuttle to the X-Games."

Thanks Mike! Ford vehicles tend to treat me the best, but I can fault no one for buying a GM truck. They're not as advanced as F-150, but if that is their preference, I will only congratulate them on the purchase. I do respect their decision.

My Focus replaced a Honda Element, and it has been excellent, but I havent even owned it a year. It drives very tight and does what its supposed to without so much as a check engine light (combined, I spend over a grand to get the Elements engine light off, still was on the day I unloaded it).

My 1995 Taurus has been my daily driver for almost 10 years, until I bought the Element this past June. The Taurus has 260k on it, and although the drivetrain is solid, most of everything else is showing its age (and neglect, in many cases). Its parked at the moment, although I do still move it around the property. I just have coolant hoses and intake hose taken off to address other concerns, so I haven't driven it on the highway lately.

My 1969 F-100 Ranger would take too long to explain, but suffice it to say, it's been in my extended family for decades, so it's not going anywhere. I fell in love with it at 8 years old, and now its mine lol

Btw, for anyone following my earlier issue today, I figured out the fuse blowing issue, it was a naked wire for the damaged license plate light, shorting against the rear bumper. I have secured it for now, but will do more after I refinish the bumper.

Advancements can also suck real bad. I have an 05 Lincoln Aviator. DOHC 4.6 with the best set of DOHC heads ford did(DC heads). 117,000 miles and the tensioners and guides went.

You would think, hey timing chains not a big deal. Screw that Ford wants $3,100. Its so damn advanced as to be a complete and utter pain to do myself. 6 sprockets, 4 chains, plus tensioners and guides. I have the timing set but no patience for it yet.

Screw Fords advancements, give me a simple Chevy any day.
