On a vice where you can rotate every weld to flat position... those welds should look a lot better. Maybe try beveling the edges. And testing butt welds on scrap steel.

I mean at least you didn’t try and grind them all flat. That’s another pet peeve. im just saying you’re close to having it look perfect. Just a few changes and you’ll be spot on.

Ah. So what is normal way that someone figures out what gauges to install in square bodies?
Normally you just decide what size gauges you want and go with that. 2 1/16 I think it is is most common and industry standard if you were to buy a 3 gauge set. There there are also a big bigger like 2 5/8. Best is to buy a kit then you know you have the correct senders. They are usually cheaper that way too. Even if they come with a mount, you can always take them out of it and mount them in your custom dash.

Also to consider, do you want white face or black face? Full Sweep or partial sweep. I think your best bet is to go to Summit Racing and search Gauges. Then you'll get all kinds of ideas. https://www.summitracing.com/search...order=Ascending&N=part-type:gauge-kits-analog

How did you mount the dimmer.

Haven't got mine installed yet. I plan to screw it to the base of the dash near the Parking Brake release; out of the way since it won't be used much.

I got the biggest pad lock the hardware store had but it's too small. Trying to find one on Amazon or somewhere now. Anybody have a model # for a padlock you use on yours?

Yep still working on dash. Trying to figure out gauge problems.
New problem today. I was on way home and engine died. I pulled over smoke coming from hood. Got it open and a wire off the coil was smoking. Called a buddy and towed it home. Got to looking and a wire I think that went to a tach the previous owner/POS mechanic installed grounded on the firewall.
I cut the wire at the coil, it still won't run. Any ideas what may be burned up. I have not checked anything just looking for a list or someone else have this problem before.

So there is an extra ground wire that shorted?

Is that wire he did in green supposed to ground I was lost in your post. It and the other one in the connector must be touching under that electrical tape?

I think he’s saying that green wire is what grounded out under the dash. Since it was hooked up to a tach. Honestly. You got some running to do. Gotta check fuses at the fuse block, in-line fuses and much more. Did the wire continue somewhere else?
theres a lot of work to be done when this happens. Because more can be affected that it appears at first glance.

Yep been there done that. One wire gets so hot it mets to another one causing adjacent wires to short. Even if you cut the effected wire you still can have issues,. If you don't get that old wire out you will have possible bare wires buried somewhere with compromised or bare insulation to do the same thing elsewhere on a different circuit.
