I think this is starting a new thread. I tried posting on a thread about about guns on this forum but not sure how to find it.
Acquired a 87 k5. Dash is junk, instrument cluster is junk. I am going to build a new dash out of aluminum sheet. I'm trying to find if someone has done this. I'm going to make a gun rack inside the dash. I looked at a bunch of simple race car dashes on Google and that is my plan. I will try to post pictures.

I think diy 4x makes a steel dash you could modify. Anything is possible with a grinder and a welder.

Welcome to GMSB. Yep, I seen where you mentioned about posting pics. We are pic ****** here. We like our truck porn. I'd suggest starting a new Build thread in the Under Construction section in the K5 Blazer Suburban 4x4 category starting with pics. Then you document your progress and get help and opinions on your truck build.

About the dash, Just my opinion, but I'd just try to get the dash back together with OEM parts. They can be found easily. Then since you have a console space being a K5, I think I'd build a custom console for the gun, or I'd use a roof rack. BUT, I don't know if you're talking hand gun or rifle.

That dash is the red step side is my "vision" but needs a door to fit a AR.
I already have lots of aluminum sheet. The instrument cluster and printed circuit are over 100 bucks on eBay and the dash pads are over 100. The k5 is no where near original. It doesn't have original engine, rear end, seats are from a dogde neon and a suburban missing door panel.
My intentions for the k5 are mountain rig that is reliable enough for a daily driver.

This is the dash from DIY4x. With a little modification I'm sure you could build a door into it.

So I didn't start on dash but did fix the hole the previous owner cut for the fuel pump. Out of all the other dumb stuff he did to it this is the only thing that gets my stamp of approval. I used 14 ga aluminum diamond plate with m6 u nuts and button head torxs bolts. Sealed it with red rtv because I found a old tube laying around. Also painted my high lift Jack and it's dry now. Going to make a mount under the bed rail. Also need to finish the bracket for the back seat. But it's been amazing weather and wallet sounds very good for Saturday dinner.
