Well it sounds like good news so far...
I got the same grief going with Big Blue.
Yeah, I still have some odds and ends I’d like to tend to. Front driveshaft is original, so I’d like to replace the u-joints in it. It has that rubber accordion dust cover for the slip yoke in it that looks like they don’t make anymore. So I’ll try to be ginger cutting the metal bands off either end to grease that guy. Might try to tap it for a zerk when it’s all apart, than have it rebalanced when it’s all said and done. The snow is coming. Still have the whole spring/airbag project too, but I’m trying to put that off til I have my two post lift operating.

My 84 has a grease zerk in the front driveshaft? It should be on the end collar for the front half of the shaft. A shock boot will work well for a new dust cover. My zip ties have held up well also, as long as you get quality ones, probably a little bit larger ones.

Sooo...

The vibration is still there. Coming down the freeway it crept up. If I had a radio, I wouldn’t hear it(I’m only very slightly able to feel, more auditory). The intensity is less so sometimes than others—from almost undetectable to slightly detectable. It definitely feels more so on the gas than off and only above 55mph. The perceived relation to throttle application makes me think it’s driveline related. Trans is original, TC is original and rear axle hasn’t been touched by myself.

The change in intensity kind of made me think the temp of the tires might be that difference and I did just have the tire rotation/balance done a few weeks back.

But I’m also feeling like the diff may be the issue. I’m calling a local shop when they open at 10 to get prices on a diff rebuild.

In the meantime, I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon for a rebalance of the tires.

Got the tires rebalanced and all four were out, BUT... it’s still there. The truck is going to the diff shop in the morning to get looked at.

If he gives it a clean bill of health, I won’t know what to think, lol! The axles are one of the valuable things on my truck, so I don’t want to grenade them. If they check out, I’ll just let whatever it is run it’s course and fix it when it breaks. At that point the only items left that haven’t been completely gone through or replaced with new will be the np208 and th400. It’ll be a good excuse for a 4l80 or 6l80 swap and associated transfer case. Then of course, I’ll be right back at the diff guy’s shop getting 4.56s put in the 14ff and D60.

How about putting it on a lift and start it up? Bring it up to 60 mph or where ever it shakes the worst. Might need a touch of drag on the brakes.
I'm still suspicious of the TC... can't get much deeper than that.
If you do upgrade the tranny, the 4L80 is all you'll ever need. Oh and a shift controller...$.

I wonder what the odds would be? Brand new $300 torque converter with 2000 miles, that’d be some crap luck!

Everything is ****** junk now now...
I hope it IS your TC... just so you can get on with life. Nothing worse than hanging, trying everything yet coming up empty handed.

Just curious. I had mud wasps build a nest on my brake drum one time. Threw off my balance just enough to cause a headache.

I wouldn't doubt that they would make a nest in disc vents.
