'89 350 TBI Motor Accesory Bracket Mounting Bolt Locations

While I had the water pump out and the fan, I decided to take advantage of the situation and see how these damn accessory brackets are installed on the motor and where the bolts are hidden using the digital camera.

Here is the pass side bracket that holds the A/C compressor. Looks like two on head and one on the bottom of the block. You can see the one on the head on the right side is a stud with a nut. These all looked like 9/16" to me.

Here is the drivers side bracket that holds the alternator and P/S pump.

This looks like it has 3 bolts going into the head and one on the bottom of the block.

Note the one behind the power steering pump.

wow you got the alum. brackets on yours. My 88 tbi newer body style truck has the steel horseshoe bracket. it weighs a ton and was only on 88-90 or so I heard, and I guesssome 89 and 90's got the alum. ones.

Mine has about the same amount of bolts, 2 on each side on bottom, 2 in each head maybe more, some are studs and some are bolts in the heads, then a bracket behind the PS pump, several support bars up to, and that's about it I think.

Plus your alternator and compressor are on oppisite sides that mine are.

And you don;t have the reverse rotation water pump.

the steel horseshoe setu didn't show up along with reverse rotation water pumps to match and serp. setups til 88, then in 89 or 90 they changed to burbs style, all alum. my 88 tbi truck has the steel horseshow bracket setup for serp.

What would i be able to replace the air conditioning bracket with? i took the air conditioning out and the bracket has the tentioner and i cant just completely eliminate it. Or what kind of belt could i use without the tentioner. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site Mitch. I'm going to assume you are talking about the aluminum bracket serpentine system that 89Sub posted pictures of originally.

yes either an a/c bypass pulley, or if you have the steel horseshoe bracket like mine, they have a different bracket you use to eliminate a/c but it's hard to find, meaning junkyards or online from a person who has one only.

Sorry I didn;t reply Mitch, but I had no info to give, and it is also a mod I want to do to my truck to eliminate the compressor. Thanks for the help fishman. What about the belt size? Does it stay the same?

I googled it real quick, seems like the cheapest place is Jeggs, even cheaper thatn rockauto. I really want to get this.

Belt size and routing remains the same as long as you are just swapping out the compressor for the pulley. If you are making other changes at the same time (deleting a smog pump for example) then you would have to change things up.

Going thru your link, Amazon has it for $27.49 with free shipping. Might be cheaper in the long run.

I am glad about the belt, this is one mod I will absoloutley be doing over in the fall.
