32 is about as big as you can go before you start rubbing

33 x 12.50 tires can normally fit fine on a stock offset and width wheel (15 x 8) so long as your springs are in decent shape. If you start using a 15 x 10 it will rub on the fender corners when you are wheeling it but if you are just driving on the street then it should not be an issue. When you go offroad and stuff the front tires up in the fenders some (like as in being off camber) it will rub on the front part of the wheel well usually. That may also depend a little bit on the tire because some manufacturers are slightly taller and some are slightly shorter as well as if you have any worn out suspension bushings and similar issues.

I have read that you can fit a 33" tire on a stock K20 with minor trimming of the wheel well trim (bright metal trim round wheel opening), but I've never tried it. It also depends on tire width and wheel offset.

You also need to find 8 bolt 16" rims that are the right width, so how wide should they be for a 14.50 tire?

i think 8 inches is the common width on all of them but don't quote me there. I know I have had 3 Jimmy's. One was a 72, a 77, and now I have an 85. I wish I still had the 72 and the 77 but all of them were able to fit 33 inch tires with no alterations and I was offroading a fair amount back when I had the 72 and 77. I did rub a tire on the passenger front on my 77 but the only reason that happened was because I had a dead spring (ran over some road trash and it bent it and my sway bar some. The square body trucks are the ones that have that trim and it is pretty firmly attached to the metal on the wheel well with some self tapper screws, but if you have contact what generally happens is the tire will slightly kiss it right where it (and the wheel well ends) and peel that metal trim back and also bend the edge of the wheel-well just enough to initiate more contact. In a pinich you can beat it inwards some with a BFH and that will help prevent that issue, but likewise you can take a cut off wheel or death wheel and trim it about 1 inch to make the curve more gentle and then the problem is solved. Likewise you can do a 2 inch lift and with 33 inch tires it will be perfect.

Interesting question as I have a set of 285/75/16's in the backyard and a set of wagon wheels we just pulled from the junkyard.

Frankenchevy just put 285's on his stock K30. 16x8 wheels with 4.5" BS.

Here's my last truck, '79 K15 with an axle swap. New 4" lift, 33x12.50x16.5" tires (32.8" tall) and 9.75"x 16.5" wheels with 4.75" of BS. If I did not trim the fenders to the first wheel well trim screw they would have rubbed.
