I wonder what the OP thinks now that the various opinions on more topics than he anticipated are out?

They are beautiful and special. There are beautiful, unique, special landcapes all over the united states. You have redwoods, sequoia and giant douglas firs all over the west coast. They are also present in Oregon and Washington. The natural wonders of the state of California just don't overcome all the other bad things to me. My in-laws spent their entire lives in southern California and are finally moving up to Oregon now that they are retiring. They just couldn't do it anymore and almost none of their friends or family live there anymore. Their children got out as soon as they were old enough and realized how nice it was everywhere else, so they didn't go back. They have all given up on the crime, squalor, and massive government taxing for no benefit and moved on.

The unfortunate side effect of that is that they have driven the housing market in the surrounding states up to crazy levels that have actually surpassed the California crazy housing prices in some instances. Housing prices in my area have doubled or more in the last 5 years, at least partially due to all the Californians moving out.

Genuinely not trying to be argumentative, actually like the conversation about landscapes and nature. Giant sequoia do not exist anywhere outside of California. The largest coastal Redwood or sequoia sempervirens in Oregon measures 120 feet tall. Whereas in California they reach 380 feet tall.

I can’t speak on the crime or other negative issues as they do not exist where I live or travel in the state. Yes, the taxes are high. I pay more in taxes every year than the median income level. Not a brag, but illustrative of the income potential in the state as well as the high rates of taxation.

Is somebody here getting 20+mpg in their LS swapped square? I guess with 2.73s and highway driving it might be possible. My LS/4.11s would need 300 miles of downhill to get that kind of mileage.

Huh? Mine does it all the time. LH6 5.3/3.90s on 20s with 28" tires - 4L65E and BTR stage 4 v2 truck cam originally, now a T56 with a TSP Bald Eagle cam. 18-22mpg regularly on road trips, even got 24 one tank. In town is a different story though lol

This is not true. While the Giant Sequoia is NATIVE only to California(depending on how far back you want to go since they were all over North America before the last ice age), it was transplanted all over the west coast by settlers in the 1800's and they thrive up here. The largest Giant Sequoia in Oregon was planted in down town Forest Grove(near Portland) in 1928 and is now over 214ft tall with a 32ft trunk circumference. There are MANY other giant sequoia all over the place up here. The funny thing is that the Redwood and Giant Sequoia are not the largest trees in Oregon. The tallest and widest diameter trees are all either Douglas Fir old growth from the valley of the giants or Western Redcedar. Probably because all of the existing Redwood and Giant Sequoia are only ~100 years old still. Its amazing how many massive stumps you see in the woods in the coastal range and the cascades trudging around hunting or backpacking. The old growth up here in the 1800's and 1900's was insanely huge before the logging industry hacked them all down.
