For some reason I can't find a black plastic stick on tailgate protector cap for my 86 square. I've been searching the internet for 2 days. Does anyone know where to get one? TIA

Doh, sorry that's not it. That's a roll of rubber that you cut to fit. I'm looking for a black pre formed hard plastic style like this.

I 've never seen black plastic tailgate caps, the vinyl protector is the only one in black.
The other plastic ones are for newer trucks.
You could get a stainless steel one and have it powder coated.

is your tailgate bowed in the center at all?
be aware using your tailgate for heavy things and standiong on may do this, which may make fitting a cap hard.

My tailgate on my trcuck bed trailer has a very sizeable gap in the center between the bed and tailgate when its closed, the very top edge isnt as severe but its a factor either way. if yours isnt, then thats good but just saying keep it in mind.
These tailgates have no way to retain anything , and plastic trim isnt found on these much except when its made to look like chrome normally, so it would be out of place in appearance

I was thinking about that but I'm not sure how it will hold up. I'm gona be putting my golf cart (sporting clay cart lol) in the back and the metal ramps will probably chip it pretty easily. I might try cerakote but I'll have to find a bigger oven

This trucks gate is perfect, actually the while truck is perfect, I got it from south Carolina and theres zero rust on it. I have had a bunch of these trucks over the years and one of them had a bowed gate. The bed sides on that truck would sway in the wind lol.

There are extrem durable powdercoatings available, stronger than bedliner. They get scratches but don't chip. When you blast the steel cap before coating it's nearly indistructable except you set your truck on fire.

I think POR-15 on a steel cap would be pretty durable.
