Was an exterior hood release available on '81+ trucks?

My '81 Silverado k20 you-cant-a-opend-dee hooood from the front. I hope my interior hood open release handle cable never breaks

Yeah, @Hilllbilly my release cable has always felt sketchy. I’d love to change to an exterior release lever but I’ve never seen one.

If interested, you can hack up your cable and fashion it as an outside hood release that looks a bit janky.

Yeah, @Hilllbilly my release cable has always felt sketchy. I’d love to change to an exterior release lever but I’ve never seen one.

$17.59 gets you a new hood release cable complete with the knob that says HOOD, from AMD nonetheless….. @TotalyHucked.
Why not just replace it with a new one rather than worrying about it?

@Grit dog mine works fine, just thinking about it since it’s 35 years old. I figured if I replaced it (broken or not) an exterior release like my old K10 had would be nice and trouble free from then on.

I also wish the cable was longer. Mine lays across the wheel well but I’d prefer a little more length to be able to tie it up to the inside of the fender some to hold it out of the way. I don’t always have the fender wells in and I hate the way the cable hangs out in space, to me it looks sloppy.

Not the first time this has been discussed with folks “nervous” about breaking the interior hood release. I get it because I don’t know how to open either squares hood if the cable breaks. But also almost every car and truck from the late 70s models on up has had internal hood release, which means every vehicle the world has owned since then has them. Are they a problem in general or at all? Not in my 35+ years of popping hoods open. I’m not even sure I recall ever replacing an assembly or cable on any vehicle. Not something to worry about imo unless you have a real reason to. Doesn’t mean turn a blind eye to an issue if you feel or see one but hood release failure is somewhere on the last page of my list of worries in life.

Have the cables been released? The Slosh Tubz site shows them but when I click on it I get a page not found screen. Available anywhere else?

Any update on this?? The site shows a cable 17" longer than stock but nothing when you click on it.

He was able to get a small batch prior to Dino's Git Down and had whatever was leftover listed on his site, now he's waiting for the regular production run to come in. Last I talked to him, he expects them sometime in January I believe @Toad455
