This is on my daughters 2014 Silverado. Alternator went out about 3 months ago and also ate the battery in the process. Replaced both and have had no issues until last week. She called and said the Battery Saver Mode came on. Made it back home. Put a meter on the battery and the alternator was not putting out. Took it back to Oriellys where I got it. They tested and said it was good. Put it back on and it was putting out. Now it will work for a short period and then quit. Alternator breaking down under a load? Something else? Looked for bad connections but could not find anything. I just need to get this thing fixed so I can get rids of it and get here something newer. It has 283k on the clock.

Is the alternator new or remanufactured you got from O'Reillys?

It could be thermal - works OK when cool but fails when hot. Thats tough to prove because by the time you take it out and go there, its working again. Can you put a full charge on the battery at the house and then drive the truck there (or is it too far to make it on battery alone) to have them test it in-vehicle? That might convince them to warranty it.

just a thought, check wiring under your fuse boxes and such. Also check your ground cables and make sure their good.

AS info:
I wouldn't recommend reman but if your daughters truck uses the 150amp style I would take back and say you want the new one for what like $50 more. O'Reillys has a not advertised (I think) "customer dissatisfaction" policy, if you don't like it, get your money back and get a new one instead. I used to work for them and returning an item under that reason is allowed.

Green is what I'm losing!
parts store remans suck....suck the money out of your wallet, ...have a warranty on them,...(like in tommy boy, ...for a box of sh;t) ...they fix them by benching them,...finding what they think is wrong, ...maybe not everything. ...and box it up with a reman tag and out the door it goes....to leave you or someone you care about pissed off on the side of the road.

what to do: buy a new GMC one, (which maybe $400 today on a $700, )

for things hard to buy or just plain pricey: DB Electrical out of Tennessse or Maniac out of Texas makes good new aftermarket alternators. they do not want your junk core to reman,...= so you can recycle it.
(both those use to be american made,...but ...their stuff remains good,...and they sell starter / alternator parts for people to DIY or for professional local rebuilders. ...I know a few garage mechanics and none have gotten a bad thing out of DB in Tennessee. (its a big company with lots of warehouses,...so only 2 days in UPS,... I got one into New York shipped to me from Quincy Mass. )

(both links below say for silverado / sierra)

same price on amazon, (others put a affiliate link on their posts ??..)

I can go for that. If it gets it going long enough until I find her a new truck I'm good with it. Thanks. And it's not another 400

what are you looking for,...hopefully nothing with Active Fuel Management / Displacement on Demand
....(I am still getting burned on a 2008 5.3 suburban,...2 dead Lc9 engines like your daughters,...and all I have good is a right head and a left head).....
