Old school locksmith??

Anyone in readerland who know someone who can work with the old lock cylinders?

The console on my son’s 92 Yukon has never locked, and now the latch is stuck. I have sprayed a bunch of graphite lock lube inside, hoping it just had a tumbler stuck, with zero luck

The only “locksmiths” in this town can cut keys, or sell locks. Apparently, the days of actually fixing locks are long gone.

Rake the tumblers with a bent safety pin see if you can get it open. I have ground tumblers or even removed some tumblers to make a key work in a given lock cylinder once you are staring at the naked tumbler assembly with a key in it. It is self explanatory.

I would try wrapping on the lock with a small mallet while pressing the black pieces in. Then try pitting the key and and out of the lock several times while banging on the plastic next to it. Try to jostle / vibrate / knock something loose. Then I would try pressing in on the black plastic pieces very hard, maybe even with a tool. If all else fails, just drill the lock and then buy a cheap replacement.

Pics as promised with a key in, the tumblers get pulled down so the assembly is round without protrusions so it can spin in the cylinder. The cylinder is round and has a key way cut in it like a harmonic balancer so the tumblers are stuck in the key way keeping the cylinder from turning. This key and tumbler has 2 tumblers removed so it can use the key I put in it, also has the very end one is ground flush,but it is stuck so it didn't popup when I pulled the key. Proper is juggle tall tumblers to shallow key cuts until all protrusion are gone with the key in. Ghetto is remove any tumblers that will hang with your key in it. This one still has 2 that will catch so you can't just turn it with any key. But any key just needs 2 matching cuts instead of 5 to make this one work. Less ghetto is put the key in and grind everything flush,then all 5 will hang with no key.
