I just jack up one wheel and spin 1 tire revolution and count the pinion yoke turns. Only time I've ever been wrong once I said a 3.42 was a 3.73 and that was probably due to slop in the R&P mesh.

well i swung by just not to gander at the rear end. More i look at this C20 the more i get disappointed. I should have read HotRod's write up on 14 bolts.

it's a Semi Float :/ so i'm assuming 4.10 ratio and an open diff

I'd rather a FF but i can't be a picky right now since the thing don't move yet.

I shouldn't have a problem bolting a FF from 73-81 bolt right up to my 85 K10 frame right? Springs, hangers, shocks, and axle

Would there be a difference in Drive Shaft lengths between the SF and FF? or are the webs the same?

1: Yes, as long as it is not a dually axle.

2: Your driveshaft will be a couple inches short, since the 14 bolt ff pinion is shorter. Also the 14 bolt takes a 1350 u-joint, and yours takes a 1310 u-joint. Conversion joints are expensive, $20-$25 but if you have your driveshaft lengthened they can put a 1350 yoke on the pinion end so everything matches. They'll even press a new Spicer u-joint in for ya, for a little more.

so find a drive shaft for a FF probably easier?

And is there any difference between the K20 14 bolt and the K30? perch points, etc

Yes, the C30/K30 rear has narrower perch spacing and shocks mounted inboard of the frame rails. The shock mounts are also staggered the opposite direction compared to the 10-20 axles.

If your truck is long wheelbase and the donor truck is 4wd and the same trans as yours that might be a good swap. At any rate, it is much cheaper to have a driveshaft cut down than it is to have it lengthened. A whole new tube has to be bought to lengthen one.

Yes there's a difference. K30s (usually) are 40.5" from leaf spring centerbolt to centerbolt. K10s and K20s are 42.5". Take a tape measure with ya!

Start looking up driveline shops, it is not as much of a pain in the ass as you think it is. The one here in town usually has same day turnaround, and a cut down can be as low as $50 if you dont need a yoke. Even lengthening is around $120. Not too terrible.

I've got two really good drive line shops in town I was referred to. So there's that issue.

Now I just got to locate the axle and the springs....for a reasonable price :/

Think id have any issues maintaining my current shocks then? Till I buy new ones

yes, I'd say if he could find a 3/4 ton driveshaft to a 3/4 that's 4x4, a good chance it's NP208 if its an auto trans and he should be smooth and ready to bolt in. Then he also gets the bigger U joint at the Yoke too even though its still a 27 spline I do beleive. Win/Win !!! But wait, he has a 700r4, and the 3/4's have Th400's so it's likely to still need mods.

As long as your tube diameter is big enough, and it should be, nothing wrong at all with that.

You can use your current shocks, I did. Hey you may want to start digging around on craigslist in your area, you got to have patience though and a wide variety of search terms. Try 14 bolt then go back and try truck parts, then try chevy parts, then search just for chevy truck, truck, chevy, etc since many people dont know how to use tags. I found my 14 bolt on a local Jeep forum that had a for sale section. Had to drive a ways for it into Kentucky but I only gave $150 for it! Once I put disk brakes and new gears bearings and seals in it though I had a hefty penny in it, maybe $700 or so altogether.
