I couldn't tell if it was under or behind me. I assume more under me. And I'm praying its the transfer case.

So since I can rev it with not grinding u don't think its the tranny?

You'll have to remove the t-case as you go anyway. When it is out, see if the input shaft spins when you spin the rear yoke. If not try 4wd and do the same with the front yoke. No spin = broke drive chain. You may see obvious damage once you get it out like a broke input shaft due to bad bearings or something.

Wound a np208 from a 1985 k20 Turbo 400 bolt right to my 1985 k10 700r4? Or do i need to buy an adaptor also?

Andy aka bucket would be the best to answer that, I think the splines may be different. If you can find one closer to what you already have would be better. I wouldnt buy anything until the damaged part has been 100% identified.

He said driveshaft doesnt spin in drive.

OK, Wasn't sure if just meant truck didn't move. IF Driveshaft isn't moving in D, T case it is. Not unless some other wierd oddity like the torque converter broke away from the flywheel, which is worth checkig too.

Yes, the splines are different, that won't work for you.

As far as Tcases, NP208 with 700r4's were up to 87. You could also bolt in a NP241C from a bit new newer up to 89, then in 90 I believe it is, it went with electronic speedo, so unless you want to open it up to change all that, use up to 87 for NP208 or 88 and 89 NP241C.

I don't think that would affect the Park cog not working. Something came apart somewhere.

Shawn, did you look at the transfer case? Was it wet with fluid, any signs of a slow leak? My seal leaks at the rear output slip joint, I checked the level last winter and it had about two drops of fluid in it.

Yep, that true too. Just woke up again. So I forgot all the details. Yep, it would be the Tcase. Coulld be the Tcase adapter too though. However,, you can usually finally a used Tcase with adapter cheaper than buying an adapter.

I never really took a good look at an exploded view of a transfer case. If a chain let go then would both yokes would spin freely?

ya i figured if the chain broke that the rear yoke would still spin.

So i swung in today to look over it a little. My front driveshaft always looked over greased/oiled. I have a lot of oil around the converter cover. But i believe that is from my engine leak. Tranny fluid is still good.

no obvious signs of exterior damage to anything.

Started her up. When i drop it into drive the RPMs drop down to the proper idle RPMs. no weird sounds, which makes me think that the engine is connecting properly with the tranny. No shaft movement in 2HI or 4HI.

So I drained the tcase. Opened the top filler plug and atf fluid came pouring out. Then opened the drain plug and dumped a **** ton more. Fluid looks clean for the most part. No metal no burnt smell.

Disconnected the front and rear drive shafts. Then decided to play around with some preliminary diagnoses. Now I'm confussed. Keep in mind no fluid or shafts right now

Shifting the tcase is now smother then ever. Parking pin is folding the rear spline. Holds front when in 4hi or low. Tranny in nuetral and tcase in 4hi, spining rear spline spines front spline. Tranny in park tcase in nuetral every thing is free.

Running out for lunch now, then I'm gonna reassemble everything and see what happens.

Any thoughts wtf this is if hanging the fluid fixes it hahahaha

This is a mystery. You said earlier that the park did not work, but does now that the shafts are removed.

OK so leme get this right if the tranny is in park and the t-case is in 2wd both yorks spin? Leave the tranny in park and shift the t-case from 2wd to 4wd hi and iff both yorks lock then its working right i believe. Front yoke will spin with tranny in park and t-case in 2wd.
