Yeah, Jerry usually drops in with some good **** when he can. Just so you know, posts like that is what we use the Rep system for. You can hit the scales logo at the bottom of his user ID block of that particular post and give some Kudos.

And guess what the guy with the most Kudos gets??? Not a damn thing !!! But, recognition is always nice. :waytogo:

You know I'm only kidding - but what do you mean when you say:

I wish we had awards for different things like 1 forum I used to go to used to have.

Do some forums actually have awards for accumulated rep points? Are any of the awards like say ... coupons for beer?

No coupons. Nothing of value. Just a badge and ribbon next to your ID in your little block with your name.

Switch if good, i think that green wire is broke somewhere between switch and fuse box. Darn, i wanted the easy solution (new switch)

Btw, the rest of the wiring under the dash is a freaking mess

so I tried to remove the fuse box, couldn't figure that out. but now there is power at the gray wire into the instrument panel (i have removed the entire panel at the moment) and power at the fuse. hmmm

how do I remove the interior portion of the fuse box? I want to check it out, or I will just cut the green wire, splice in a fuse holder and cut the gray wire.

There is a two piece "gland" behind the fuse block.

This gland is where the engine harness penetrates the firewall. It (the gland) is basically just a big multi-prong plug & socket that is held together by one bolt. The head of that bolt is right in the center of the gland - on the engine side.

But you didn't ask about that. The fuse block is bolted to the cab side of the gland. It is held away from the gland by two stand-offs.

If you look in the upper right and lower left hand corners of the fuse block, you'll see two 3/8" bolt heads. These bolts pass through the body of the fuse block, through the two stand off's and are screwed into the firewall gland. Pull those two bolts and the fuse block will come away from the firewall.

I tried that, but it wouldn't seperate. If it is accessible from the engine side I will try that tomorrow, that would probably be easier anyway

the horn on my truck has been rigged to a button under the light switch, PO obviously didn't want to go through the effort of installing the horn button in the grant gt wheel. But i noticed the horn/dm fuse is burnt out, I'm guessing that is the why my dome light doesn't work

Good guess.

I bet your cigarette lighter doesn't work either - correct?

Disco the orange wire to the cigarette lighter, plug a new fuse into the HORN/DM slot and see if it holds.

If it doesn't immediately blow, try operating the dome light by opening the door (or by turning the instrument panel rheostat to the end).

Popped a new fuse in today, didn't blow, but still no Dome light. How do you take the cover off to get to the bulb? Could also be switches, they are awfully crusty.

Yes it could be the door jamb switches but the dome light can be manually illuminated by rotating the instrument lighting control rheostat all the way (CCW I think).

Oh yeah, definitely check the bulb in the dome light assembly.

The lens is held in the base by 4 tabs near the corners:

To remove it, just squeeze the top and bottom edges of the lens:

When you get it off you might find a normal looking bulb or there might be a tubular type bulb - think 86 has the tube type.
