Is a 2wd 4L60E worth the trouble?

These things listed above are exactly why I'd like to get either my 4.10 or CUCV 4.56 axle in my 84 C20 that currently has 3.21 gears. This truck kills me at 8mpg around town. I know for a fact, some 4.10's will increase the City Mpg. I doubt the hwy 13 will get hurt. I'm going to guess I'd get 10 City, 13 hwy with 4.10's. But, I'd still like to add the 700r4 for the OD since the OD might increase mpg with 4.10's, and the lower 3.06 1st gear with 4.10's will sure get that truck moving from a stop light and is certain to increase city mpg.

the two biggest misconceptions i come across are RPMs = MPG, and CID = MPG... i have seen occasions where identically equipped trucks, save for gears, the lower geared truck will get better economy despite the higher RPMs...

i have also seen with my own eyes a truck that swapping from a 350 to a 454 picked up fuel economy.

My wifes Mustang has a 4.0 v6 with 210 (?) horsepower and it gets 24mpg on the highway.

My father in law HAD a GT-500 with a supercharged V8 pushing out a little more than 500 rear wheel power and it also got 24 mpg on the highway.

Same body style, basically the same car. If you really think about it long enough it does make sense.

my daily driver has 285s on it, and 3.73 gears... i'd love a set of 4.56s

285 what? You do realize that in a 285 75 16 the width is actually the 285 and the 75 is the percentage of the width that equals sidewall height.

yes, i am well aware of how tires are sized. they are 285 75 16s... commonly referred to as simply "285s" on every truck board i've ever been on...
