My truck doesn't need to be inspected. I am overdue on my car, though. Oops!

I got an estimate from the body shop I used to wirk for on taking care of a crappy repair to the rear quarter panel, replacing the hood, repairing the rust starting on the bottom of the doors and rust proofing the truck. It was over $3000.00. So much for being lazy! I told them to requote only the repair to the quarter, painting a hood I picked up and I will install it. And rust proofing. I havent seen the revised quote yet. I repaired the door bottoms already and found a good hood and chrome bumper for $200.00 so now I am just waiting on the quote. If it's still too much I will also do the rust proof myself.

It was only surface rust so I just wire brushed it off, primed and painted it. Next step will be to get some rust proofing in the doors to keep the seam sealed.

Did some PM work yesterday. Changed the fuel filter. What a mother that was. My release tool wouldn't fit between the filter and line so I could get it off. Ended up taking the short section of hose out to work at the bench. Still a mother but I got it. Replaced a leaky tail shaft seal. Changed the plugs and wires. Number 8 plug is a PIA to get to and my hands are a scratched to **** from cramming them in places they don't fit! Got it done tho. Body work is all thats left but $1800.00 to get it done is not currently in the budget right now. I havn't sprayed two stage paint and I don't have a gun for it. I am tempted to pick up the correct nozzle for my Sharp and spray the hood this spring to see how it goes. Any pointer on this?
Also have LED lamps for the interior but have the dim map light issue to figure out.

I have noticed the truck has a sound from the exhaust almost like a miss when idling cold. I can hear a slight lifter tick from it that coinsides with the sound. It goes away in a few minuets. I know the PO replaced the cam and lifters about 75,000 or so ago. I am wondering if It could be that the lifter is just gummed up? Perhaps some marvel mystery will loosen it up. Anyone else run into this on their LS motor? I have heard horror stories but I am of the opinion it will run forever like this.
