I have a 1987 Chevy c20 that's has a 350 in it and was wondering why it sounds like an airplane when I rev it. In most videos I see if people reving their trucks I only hear the exhaust and when I try to rev mine all I hear is an airplane noise coming from the engine bay. Only way to really hear the exhaust is to be literally at the end of the tail pipe.

And the problem is? Are you one of those that louder means faster? Just so know, it's not true. I don't even hear my truck when it's idling or when I jump on it. When I jump on it, all I hear is Quadrajet Groan sucking air and I like it that way.

Thread moved to property category.

Fan clutch. Try to spin the fan by hand. It should make a LOT of revolutions, easily.
HAYDEN brand fan clutches only.

Probably a non-thermal fan clutch.

I cant say airplane noise, but my engine bay was super loud and you could definitely hear that over the new exhaust. my exhaust that I put on is a set of long tube headers, straight back to 2 borla mufflers. Its not super loud until you get on it but ive always heard the engine noise more. anyway I adjusted my valves and its purring pretty quiet now. weird to get in the truck now and not hear the engine running.

this is the video I followed... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_hY2M4oZc8

Fan clutch. Could be a non-thermal model, or a thermal that doesn't slip anymore. Or it could be a severe duty clutch that doesn't slip as much as a std duty.

Combine any of the above with a steeply pitched fan, and you have lots of propeller-type noise.

I wish my suburban was not audible unless standing right by the tail pipe. Stock style muffler a bit loud for long trips
