You know what though? Those spacers on the bolts can be used to drop the crossmember for a lifted truck, can't they?

they would, but I would rather have something with a wider diameter.

Come to think of it, you're right. Maybe GM is smarter than us after all. They were thinking ahead. WOW, imagine that !!!! :High 5:

Yes. Mine is underneath like 89S's, but the instructions that came with the lift had me move the bushings up so they are between the frame and the crossmember.

I was going to say that I thought it was because of a lift, but when bubr had his the same way, you can see the bolt holes in the frame and crossmember for it to be on top, but I guess they did it for driveshaft angles, but yea those spacers get moved around for the lift kits I know the older pre 80 trucks call for it, but our 86 with a 4 inch kit did not call for moving of the spacers.

Yeah, I think some lift kits come with a cheesey piece of steel square tubing to be used as spacers.

That's strange since my '89 did want the bushings moved.

I wonder if that cross member is made like that just to be universal fit on whaver line the plant is producing so they don't have to make different crossmembers??? Anybody got a pic of a 2wd crossmember?

I don't think it maters for the burbans because of the long wheel base, but shorter p/u's and blazers/jimmy's definately need the help for the DS angle.

That's half right, the front drive shaft is the same as the short wheelbase rigs so dropping the T-case down a bit helps the 'burbs too.

Actually hurts the front drive shaft angle because the angle of the front transfer yoke is actually tilting back instead of forward. Which is why the double joint on the transfer end of the front DS becomes especially handy. :High 5:

2wd is way different, at least it is on dad's 84. It comes outside the ds frame and has 2 bolts up top 2 down on the bottom of the frame flange, then has a part that sticks out on the ps and has a bolt in the front, back and top you can unbolt and throw the crossmember out of the way.

But yea our 86 we didn't have to do anything to the t-case. I had the instructions for it but don't know where they are, it was a rough country 4 inch kit, and if it did call for it, we didn't do it LOl.

Watch out for stuff falling in yer eye dude.

I know I put a 6" Skyjacker softride lift on my old '85 Burban I had and it said to drop it in the directions, that was like over ten years ago. Damn, 10 years gone like that, ****....
