If I were you I would consider a new serpentine belt, maybe a water pump, thermostat, if it looks like it could use oil pan/valve cover gaskets I would do those too, PCV valve, cap/rotor/plugs/wires, air filter, any kind of regular maintenance/tune-up parts I would go ahead and do them now. I would even consider pulling the timing chain cover and check it for slack.

Yep, while its out, you can knock all that stuff out fairly quick then shouldn't have to worry about any of that for at least 50,000, and some of for even longer. Timing chain set woudln't be a bad idea either. Usually by 100K, they are stretched pretty good. Should be able to find you an aftermarket double roller set for about $30 or so.

I appreciate the good tips, but my mission here is to drop this used engine in for the short term as it is so I can attack the old motor and dump the money into that and have a nice fresh motor to drop in with all the new bells and whistles. And I hope to do that within the next 12 months. I want to tear it down, find the problem, check the bearings and stuff inside, the whole kabang, along with you's guyz help of course, and put that bitch back together with all new stuff, a little at a time and get it back into this truck. :waytogo:

If I didn't have the coolant burning issue the way it is right now I would be restoring the purchsed motor instead, but I got to get this motor in ASAP. Being on a tight budget with the gov taking a 3rd of my check and the ex another 3rd, I need to spend as less as possible on the temp motor. Believe me, it is very frustrating. :sad72:

Just put a collector at the end of your exhaust pipe and collect the antifreeze your current motor doesn't want and you should be good to go :happy175:

Maybe I should just do that. I'll take this process a day at a time and let fate take it's course, lol. Maybe I can deal with the ****** motor for a while longer now that the weather is getting warmer and just fresehn this motor up and put it in. Decisions, decisions....

I remember the guy saying he doesn't think it was the original motor but maybe a crate motor the way it looked. Is there any way to tell guys? Looking at numbers on it or something?

Sadly the anti-freeze is burning or he could do that. Other bad thing is, I have a feeling that burning anti-freeze can't be good on the Cat Converter.

That's the good thing about jokes. They don't always have to make sense or even be logically able to occur

You know what? I think that's what helped the last exhaust system die so fast and rust out, maybe because of that. I am figuring if it's not the original cat, it definatley has a **** load of miles on it and might be another reason I have a problems at the emmisions testing place. I guess I'll have to add that to the long list of **** to replace, lol. :shitsweak:

Yes, usually the GM crates have a different cast # and also should have a sticker or cast somewhere in the block, "Heche En Mexico" Means Made in Mexico.
