before i left to get the temp sensor i checked it again and it was fine.

I noticed the rpms were showing 6375 when it was idleing and sometimes it would go to 550 and 600 but most of the time it was at 6375. Is this normal?

also it is idleing very slow compared to usual.

what do you guys think?

Just got home late...I will take a gander tomorrow. That rpm thing sounds like an ignition issue, getting a lot of false triggering for some reason.

to your Knowledge, has anything been done to the wring from or around the dist? Take a gander at the condition, right now looks like some false triggering is happening...maybe something too close to the coil? 6 k all of a sudden is pretty freaky.

my dad has owned it since 88 so there isnt much that has been done that i dont know about/ can find out. the only wiring that has been changed near the dist is the msd and its fairly clean and has been that way for as long as i can remember. I havnt undid any of the msd stuff because i didnt want to do all that and find out that it was something different.

would the false triggering cause the timing to advance the way that it has been?

Secondary ignition wires being too close to ecm wiring. And like I said before, you need to take the MSD stuff out of the equation if we are to figure out this problem. We have no reference or diagnostic material for it, just the factory stuff. I am very suspect of the MSD system, this being an ignition issue. Besides the ECM, Its the only other thing that can do anything with timing and ignition.
Even traced down an ignition problem caused by the vss wire running next to the ignition wires...only happened when the truck was moving. took us 3 weeks to track the sunuvabitch down.

Jim, you might want to check out 7-zip. It's much better (in my opinion) than WinZip, and it's also free.
