got the ecm swapped over and it fired right up but the check engine light is rapidfireing like you said. i checked the PROM chips and none of the terminals were bent. is there something else that could cause this?

my dad started messing with the chips to makesure that they were seated properly and now it wont start and no check engine light. there isnt any light even when the key is on and engine off.

Make sure they are not in backwards. The notch on the cip holder should be pointing to the right of the ecm if you are holding it with the plugs pointed up. make sure both chips are all the way down.

OK...I would pay particular attention to both chips...CalPac could be upside down...Its the skinny chip.

im 99% positive that the chips are in right.

im going to put the chips back into the old ecm to see if it is a bad chip or if the ecm that i bought is bad.

I know! its been more that 2 months since that truck has been running. atleast now we know that it was the ecm.

I called Rockauto this evening and they can only refund my money not send me a new one because they are out of stock:flipthebird: so my dad is getting one from a friend that he is working with this week. should be here in a week or so.

Thats good news. I have had good lick with Standard and A1 cardone remans. Airtex/wells is the best aftermarket...dunno if they do ecm's or not though.

not sure, the numbers are faded on the new ecm. The one in my truck is 1227747.

The one that i got from the 89 was out of a heavy duty 1 ton with a 454 and a 40l80. i think that the tranny is the reason why it is different.

gonna be looking at Pull a part in the near future.
