So how bad are the gears and chain? Is it possible the lack of power that you jumped time a tooth or 2?

Check the 4th post I have a link to a video showing how much play is in the chain.

Also on the back side of the cam gear has cracks all in it.

That chain appears to be just fine. It didn't appear the gouges in the crank gear were all that bad. I've seen chains with 3 and 4 times that slop. That just appears to be a well broke in chain to me and most likely been replaced before. Is it a metal gear or Fiber plastic cam gear? If it's a steel gear, it's been replaced before. Being that I wouldn't want to put any more money in this engine than I had to, that chain looks to be fine and I wouldn't replace it for a patch job.

It is a steel gear. So yeah I am just gonna do what I can, get it going again and keep a look out for another engine. I bought a new fuel pump already will it work with a 350? Also will the water pump swap out too?

Yep, all the externals of that 305 will work on a 350 too.

Crank, Pistons and Balancer are about the only things that won't work on the 350. Some will say the 305 crank will work too, but I'm not so sure about that. Some say the 350 and 305 cranks are balanced differently. Con Rods are the same, cam, timing set, lifters, push rods, rockers, all of that will fit in a 350 too. The heads will even bolt onto a 350, but they don't breathe real well and do boost the compression ratio since they have a smaller chamber on the Wee O Five.

Awesome, so maybe I will keep the fuel pump since it has a life time warranty. Either way, so now I just need to be on the look out for a good used 350.

Thanks for all your help and good info!! Will let you know how the engine is after I get down patching it back together lol. I hope for the best!

Yeah I am going to check everywhere I can. Hopefully I am lucky, so far I haven't found any, only rebuilt ones that they want $1000+.....

Its all about where you look, 350's are really common, just be careful no one tries to pass off a 305 as a 350.

You can bet your ass, there are many people passing off 305's as 350's. Some to be liars, cheats and crooks, some because they were told it was a 350, and some because they don't know their ass from a hole. I've seen it over and over and over, and also know a couple of victims who fell for it too. I'd make you a list of block casting #'s and have it with you. Or find a list on the internet, there are plenty, and print it off and take it with you.

The blocks in the 80s generally have either 5.0 or 5.7 stamped on the back of the block by the casting number

R.I.P Sweet 305...

I found a engine already, should be a 350. My cousin has it, came out of a 3500 dually. It is a 1990' something, not sure exact year but its fuel injected. So I will probably get it after christmas, maybe before if I am lucky.

Only problem he mentioned, was that on the passenger side of the 2 cylinders where getting water in. So hopefully just needs a new head gasket.

This will be my first engine swap so I most likely will make another post to get some help along the way as I run into stuff.

Before I drop in the 350, I will replace all the seals, gaskets and such.

Also if you guys have any tips and tricks to make this swap go easy and smoothly as possible let me know!!

The two cylinders pulling water are probably 4 and 6. They run hotter than the end two.

Check that head for flat and for cracks. They warp when overheated, and can crack. Known failure mode for late 350 low-compression heads. When they slimmed the heads down to save weight, they went just a leetle too far.
