update. car is fixed. the timing was off. according to my friend, the truck was 12 degrees retarted. he advanced it to 2 degrees and its running perfect. heres the picture of how much it was off, u can see the vacuum port mark on the valve cover, prior of taking out the distributor. I have to drive the truck at least 300 miles to let the computer learn the parameters. but this kit is awesome

What I'm thinking, is if the fuel sender is still in that 88 donor truck's tank, I'm thinking that it is a FI pump as well...

If so, I can grab that and then use it to make a surge tank/fuel commander.. Just a matter of fabbing up a 1G tank for it, adding fittings and maybe even a couple pressure gauges...

Viola! Just saved myself 400 bucks!

heres a video of the truck running. as you can see on the command center low pressure gauge is reading lower because i have roughly 4 gallons in the tank. when i fill up the tank, it would read 6-8psi.

But does that still cause the problem, now that you've fixed the timing?

I bet that if you got a cheap electric pump and installed it lower than the tank or about level with the bottom, that problem would disappear..

Awesome man, glad you figured it out. 2 degrees BTDC doesn't sound like much timing though. Guess it just depends on your cam's profile.

with the dieseling problems and everything else, yes the timing fix the problem. ur probably right about a electric pump or upgrade my mechanical pump to a higher volume pump

right now my truck is all stock except for the fitech so it has a stock spec cam. so 2 is set from factory. i can advance it more but for right now im good as it sits

Man.. Both of those items are half again the price of the Fuel Commander..
Hell, I'd never buy one of them I'd just make one, and I sure wouldn't use floats they do stick sooner or later, had one bad experience with them that was enough, after that I used a return line no more failures for 20+yrs..

What do you mean by floats? In the surge tank?

I think I'm following you.. Just using a return line and letting the can completely fill up and then run back into the supply tank as opposed to using a float in the can to shut off the input flow from the low pressure pump?

I think this answers my question about how many ports I need on the senders I need to order..

Best scenario is a three port sender on each tank, a 6 port valve that switches both the supply and return line, and a surge tank in the engine compartment with a return line back to the 6 port valve..

And I'm assuming that a pump/sender from a late model GM truck would be fine in the surge tank to supply pressure to the EFI?

Any EFI submersible pump will work. For fittings it's whatever you need for the unit you get, you need in/out and whatever returns the system has, simple deal.. I am a very strong believer in the K.I.S.S. method, mainly because I'm a *******.. :D

You guys are really over complicating the fuel system side, an 87 tank an sender with a 96 fuel pump seems alot easier to do, to me anyway.....
