Window cranks - How do I get them on?

I kinda feel stupid, but im having trouble installing a pair of window cranks. Vice grips were getting tacky and could be better served elsewhere.

It seems like the spline shaft of the window regulator is longer than what the crank will allow? Or is there a trick to install them? Ive tried with clip on and off, doesnt seem to go far enough on.

Clip on. Push.

The clip should lock when it gets to the groove. If you can pull it off either you're not pushing far enough or the splines are boogered.

If you had vise-grips on them the splines are probably trashed.

Hmm, now that you say that i should check. those vice grips were on tight. Think I can maybe file the splines? I cant really see where its not letting me on, but i didnt think about the splines. And i only tried driver, i should try passenger that never had a vice grips on

They dont go on super flush or nothin. The clip rides in a groove , right? That's all you get.

So I never got them to work.. but i found out my doors originally came off another year, because i found my VIN on 2 doors all hacked up(looks like rust ate em first) so maybe the splines had different heights or something on actuators? Or perhaps i have cheapo handles?

There are 2 different types of handles and spline shafts. They early ones have a short shaft, the later ones a longer shaft. You can fit a later one on early one. 73-76 use the short shaft afaik.

I think Im using a short handle on a long shaft, then, it just seemed off... Ill look at whjat I ordered.

You found vin numbers on a pair of doors? I've never heard of that...Sure would like to hear more about this.

for example, a 79 it appears likely i didnt cross check the vin but its a pretty blue
