What do those of us with '73s do if we want to replace the HVAC controls?

Well, if you can't find a direct replacement, and the one that is in your truck works, then send the LMC unit back and clean up the one you have to the best of your ability and call it good.

That's what I'm going to do. I'm going to clean it up and see if I can remove the plastic face from the LMC unit and swap it onto my old unit. That's all I really wanted was a new face since the old one is dingy. I'm sure I can make it work with some plastic weld.

Still, I'm really curious as to why my HVAC controls are so different than all the other ones. Seems weird!

It's just listing errors. Some of these companies don't really know what they are selling.

Maybe and perhaps since '73 was the first year squarebody, the Chevy engineers decided they didn't like the way it worked and changed it from '74 up.

If it were me, I would not hack up the $65 dollar part to change the faceplate. I would send it back. If you can get the plate off yours, you might consider some plastic polish and some elbow grease for that factory fresh look on your OEM part...

Yep, I guess it's back to LMC it goes. Lesson learned!

Clearly! USA1 also has the wrong one (if it is indeed wrong) listed as well. Sheesh!

I am sure you can get the clear plastic faceplate off. The Chrome knobs pull off. Might take a bit of force but they do pop off. Then carefully release the plastic clips holding the clear faceplate on. The printing is on the backside so you can use some polish and polish the front side and if you need to you can paint the black that is behind the faceplate. Then just clean the gunk off and use some steel wool to clean up the rest of it. Lube things up ad reassemble. it will look terrific. Just take some time.

Already started taking it apart. It's cleaning up nicely.

I guess that's the good thing about these old vehicles. Everything is simple and easy to work on. Couldn't do this to a 2025 vehicle!
