Under hood heat

I am considering some hood vents.

Nothing Flashy.

Just one simple vent on each side of the body line.

Anyone do this?

Any ideas on which vent.

Kinda leaning toward XJ vents(these in particular).

I am not overheating, I actually run really cool. But you would not know that popping the hood.

Agreed. Need to be louvered.

I like that setup. But I really like those flags.

Hardbody?

For anyone interested in doing this those gta vents are probably not real easy to find. Chevy Lumina had a similar hood vent and they made a ton of those.

I ran the ultimate vent for 2 years...no hood. Took that long to decide to cut the hood for the bug catcher. Blower and injection was new so hated to cover everything up. Drove her daily, even in the rain. Water was never an issue. If anything, it will let you know if you have bad plug wires. Just more cleaning to do than normal.

Just recently had to do it again while hood was repainted. Still, the hood isn’t sealed so water still gets in. But it does let some of the heat from the blower escape.

AFWIW, the GTA hood was bent, so I didn't feel bad about cutting it up. $20 at the j/y couldn't pass it up.

I like that setup. But I really like those flags.

Truck still isn't finished. There is some intrusion when I gave it a bath, nothing terrible though. I think the setup will work well when I'm wheeling to allow heat to escape. Space is very tight in the engine compartment and I'm having difficulties trying to decide where to put my trans-cooler. I've thought of installing it under the pass. side vent but I think the heat will affect the cooling effect of the cooler. Custom builds, easy at times, head scratching at other times. SMH

If you put the closer to the outside edge you wouldnt have to worry about water getting on the plug wires or exhaust and causing steam while driving in the rain.

You can shim up the rear of the hood and let heat out. You mentioned XJs that is what I did with mine. It was fine until you were in the woods so I just made some .5-.75 inch shims and used a longer hood bolt. Makes the whole thing sort of like a scoop. Looks a bit strange but lets heat out without cutting any holes if you want to try before you buy sort of thing. Or buy one from someone whose folded theirs from not oiling the hinge and let it vent out each side. lol

I mentioned this very thing in another thread, being that's what all the Hondas around here do.

I am pretty set on some vents, I don't mind cutting a couple holes in the hood.
