Hopefully this is in the right thread. Could you please help me identify what this sound is? New starter installed. New battery. This is after spray starter fluid into the carburetor. Thank you.

Sounds like the starter is spinning up / down with the engine.

As for starting, I would fill the float bowls through the vents, and then give it a full 2 second shot of starting fluid.

Thanks for replying. For the starter, would that mean that i installed it wrong? Or something that its just doing cause its not turning on?

The starter might just be the way that one sounds. Or it could be getting stuck on the flywheel, or maybe something else. But I would start with the engine, because if the engine wont run for more than 1 second, then the starter doesn't matter. Did you try that fuel thing, filling the float bowls?

Check the ignition starter switch on the steering column as well.

Not yet. Need more fuel. Waiting for my wife to get back. I was thinking maybe I should have shimmed the starter, but I didn’t cause there weren’t any on when I removed the old one. I’ll try the fuel thing later on

You may already know this, but you can mess a starter up, damage the flywheel, or even break the starter mounting bolt holes right off the engine if you shim it wrong. There is a very specific procedure when shimming, not just guesswork.

As long as the starter turns the motor over, that's good enough for now. Same reason you don't fix the muffler until the engine actually runs.

Once it starts and runs, then you can evaluate the starter to determine if it needs shimming or anything else.

As for the engine- I think you are not getting fuel, and based on the video it sounds like you used very little starting fluid.

I’m going to try again Tuesday. I will let you know how it goes. I really appreciate your advice. Thank you.

^This. I hear no issue from that video. The high pitched whine is just the bendix in the starter retracting and slowing back down till it starts. You normally don't hear that if the engine lights off and runs, you just hear it cuz the engine died

It is however really cool to see some new participants here on the forum recently that are getting into old cars/trucks/squares, that have never heard an old car almost start or never known what/how a mechanical fuel pump works.
Keepin the old stuff and old knowledge alive….
