Took my 305 and put it on my dad's truck there's a cable on what seems to be a th350 not the original transmission he had the 700r4 anyway have not been able to connect the plastic device into the square hole have tried different ways to run cable have it going behind the transmission dip stick tube and over the top of the bellhousing still about 1/2 an inch short whats worse he doesn't remember if it was hooked up or not anyone know what that cable is for its on the passenger side almost at the front of the front of the transmission

On a 350 it's strictly a kickdown cable, when you stand on the throttle it drops a gear, depending on the speed it drops to 2nd or 1st, it's main use is for passing. Without it hooked up you just downshift manually, it does not affect any other operation.
