Hey guys I'm new here. I have a 82 k10 shortbed. I pulled the 6.2 diesel and am putting in a crate 350. My question is the truck had a 4 speed Saginaw manual trans with a 208 transfer case. What is the best swap to automatic trans without having to modify everything in the driveline ?

If you pull the 208 off of the SM465 and find that it is a 10 spline input then you must change everything out. If it is not then a 4wd TH400 will accept the 208. However you will need to find a Th400/208 adapter as the 4 spd one will not work

I would scour the junkyards for something as a complete unit Tcase and Tranny.

Personally I would do a TH400 or 4L80 First, then secondly I would consider a 700r4 or TH350

The newer 241 Tcase is better than a 208 but the only one that came with a speedo cable was in 88/89

I wonder if he has the 4 speed od instead of the 465 though. If I remember correctly, those were more common in the diesels. If that's the case, then that would be a 32 spline input on the t-case which would work with the turbo 400, with the right adapter.

Most if not all 465s in later years are the same and a TH400 will mate up to the 208 that was used behind the 465.

But if it is 10 splines then no luck

True. His is an '82 though. If it's got a 465 that's original to the truck, it'll be 10 spline. If I remember correctly, the 465 went to 32 spline around '85.

That only applies to a 1-ton truck with an NP205. 465/NP208 were 32 spline starting in '81, there were never any 10-spline NP208's.

Learned something new. Forgot all about the 465/208 combo.
