I've searched to no avail so I'm asking here. I have a 78 2wd that I'm building. I've been to several shows here lately looking at tire size combinations on these trucks. I'm going back lowered about 2", no more. I like the 275-60-15 size the best of all the sizes I've seen. The 295-50-15 looks too short for my liking. My questions is: Is there a tire that's a little wider than the 275-60-15 without going too tall? I don't want mud tires either. Using online tire comparison calculators I like the sizes of 285-60-16, 295-55-16, but there is no such size that I can find without going with a mudder. I don't mind going with a 16" wheel since I don't have wheels yet, but even the 16's don't have the width (around 11-11.5") without going too tall. I'm looking for a tread width of 11-11.5 and a height of around 28-29". It looks like Hoosier or Mickey Thompson is the only tire larger than the 275-60-15. I know if the sizes aren't coming up they don't exist but I thought I'd ask anyhow. Thanks.

The size I like when I put into the comparison chart is a 285x60x16, but that tire has been discontinued.

Hi, I am running 275/60/15’s all around.
I saw this moderately lowered truck with what I believe are 265/75/15’s
They appear to fill the wheelwells and kinda in my opinion, look proper.
Wadda ya think?
Post a picture of your truck, someone on here had 10” rallies that looked nice. The K models came with them but I believe they are 6 lug.

I just saw where you said for me to post a pic of my truck, but it's in pieces at the moment, ha. It's looking like I'll go with the 275/60/15. Will this size clear the front also?

Mine are MT sportsman 28x12 15 on the rear but this is a 15x10 rim. You won't get an 11-11.5 tread width in there because that'll have a 13+" section width, most you'll get in there is 10-10.5 tread with a section width in the 12-12.5" range depending on backspace. Also, no tuck because it's only 28" tall you'd have to go 30 to tuck even a little with a 6" drop.

Here is a little education that may help you. The tire breaks down the specs 3 fold. Example: 275/60r15 breaks down this way. It’s 275 mm wide, it’s 60% tall as it is wide (this is the aspect ratio), the “r” means radial, 15 is the wheel diameter. If you go wider such as 295 then your height will go up if you could stay with a 60 series. Most people are looking for over all diameter this the reason the drop to a 55 or 50 series(aspect ratio) and a wider width the diameter will stay close to the same and no require speed calculations. Obviously it’s more I depth than this quick reply but hope this helped.

I wish I could find a street 295 60 15, or a 285. I'll have to stick with the trusted 275 60 15.

Wow how times change! First set of 275-60-15s I put on my Impala, I thought they looked so mean and low profile. Now they look pudgy.
Oh well tires got skinnier and I got fatter in the last 35 years!

That's the one I've been using, I like how it compares two at the same time.

Here's an update that I finally came up with after hours of searching online. The whole line of BF Goodrich sport tires have been discontinued, see the info below. If you want wider/taller than the trusty 275/60/15 you have run Hoosier, Mickey's, or other race tire, or mud tires. Some sites still show the sport sizes but you can't get them. You may find a taller tire than the 275/60/15, but not wider unless race/mud. Below is what I found to be no longer available. I stand to be corrected so please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks. I was originally looking for a rear tire with 11-12" width and around 28-29" tall either 15 or 16" wheel, some of the below sizes would have been perfect (not all).

I've got Uniroyal 31x10.50 15 on the back of mine. They only measure 30" tall.
255/70 15 is almost identical but are actually a little bit wider on the tread. My nephews truck has that size.

Do you have any pics of your truck with the 31x10.5x15's?

With the 10's theyre a little stretched. Im in the same boat as you- a 295/60 would be perfect but they only have that size in a Hoosier bias ply. When these wear out I'll probably go to the 295/65 MT ET Street SS

They look good on there, what brand are they? I just found that Coker Tire is the absolute only place that has these two sizes, they are BF Goodrich: 285-70-15, and 275-65-16. They are hard to find on their website but they're there.
