dumb question retro... where does one find the kickdown switch? my 87 is the only TH400 truck i've ever owned, everything else has been TH350, 700R4, or 465. i probably have exactly what you're looking for.

What do you mean it don't shift? As in related to downshifting? Which switch are you going with? The gas pedal switch or the carb switch? Pocket part next time you get to Budget Wrench. I'd hate to say I have one cuz I am almost 100% positive it would be burnt up on the 84 burnt cab truck. But, does your truck have the provisions for the switch on the gas pedal? I know being a shortbed, it likley had the 9in tailshaft Th350 originally and that's why your truck is missing the switch.

They can also be at the carb as HR says, but I believe most, if not all trucks had it at the gas pedal. I know it was on one of my Ponchos.

(hopefully that shows up...)

The truck DOES have the provisions for the switch at the gas pedal. There's some wiring there and under the truck that may be part of the kickdown...

I can shift it manually but it acts like it goes into neutral when it hits third, I know it's in Drive because I just worked on the linkage to make it less sloppy. The fluid is still cherry red and doesn't smell burned, but the connector for the kickdown has nothing attached to it. It also won't downshift on a hill, unless I manually do it.

I just want to drive it more before going with the 700R4 for the TPI.

I need to do that soon though...My wife is itching to drive it and that scares the **** out of me...But what can ya do?

Damn, I bet the dually i got the tach from had a T400, but it has been crushed.

That carb type was usually used in the late 60's early to mid 70's at the latest. Everything else is gas pedal activated that I'm aware of. But, same principle, it could be done on TBI too since it just works off the manual linkage to where when you'd floor board the pedal the linkage pull wide open and bumps the switch at full throttle.

For some ungodly known reason my 1 ton has the switch on the pedal, It was originally a 4 spd truck, as you know I am using an electronic transmission so I dont need the switch. If you still need it does $25.00 TYD sound fair?
