Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. I have a 90 V2500 Suburban, the steering is loose. I have checked all front end components and everything checks out. I tried adjusting the play out of the gearbox which helped a lot but the play is still there. I am assuming the gearbox needs to be rebuilt or replaced. So my question is, will the "rebuild kits" fix the sloppiness or are these kits only intended to fix leaks? My truck has over 300K on it, just need to be certain that it's time to shell out the cash for a new box..

Check out your steering shaft also. Mine had slop in the rag joint which leads to sloppy steering.

Check the rag joint first. Rebuild won’t tighten it up because none of the hard parts are replaced, only the seals and o-rings

i was gonna say, the column has adjustments and bearings and rag joints and etc that should all be checked first. a fsm shows you how to do it all
