Does anyone know why I have this washer/shim between my spindle and steering knuckle. Thia is on my 1979 GMC 9 bolt GW front axle.

Is it tapered? If it is, it’s a camber shim.

That's to align the front end. Do you remember the position before you took it out? Should be a thin edge and a thicker edge. Usually the thick edge is to the bottom to decrease the camber. Were the tires wearing before you took it apart? Recheck it carefully for thickness, 180 degrees apart.....mike it if you have to

You are correct. I did mike it and it is about 30 thousandths on the thin side and 75 thousandths on the thick side. I did not notice he position when I took it apart as it was very difficult to separate. The tires are not noticeably worn unevenly. Thanks for the help.

I would bet money it's to decrease the camber. I would reinstall it with the thick side at the bottom.
