Now i that i have the good gmc rear emblem, i need to remove the aluminium band to remove the chevrolet emblem.

i have a bedliner on the door, once removed will i be able to access to the clips/screws ?? that maintain the band.

i want to have it removed, because i'll try not to break the chevrolet emblem and i' ll try to have the holes for this emblem welded if possible, the welder need to see the part alone.

From what I remember, you just remove 5 screws and the panel comes off.

When you pull the tailgate liner off you'll see several bolt/screw heads along the level of the trim band. The 3-4 in the center are for the tailgate release handle.

There will also be 2 fasteners (usually stainless Phillips-head screws) visible on each side of the handle bolting. Those are threaded into speednuts on the backside of the trim piece. Just release them and the trim band is free.

From reading your post, it seems that you are aware that the "GMC" badge mounts on the left end of the band.

It also sounds as if your intention is to remove the "CHEVROLET" badge and have those mounting holes filled by a welding process - correct?

I would think long and hard before attempting this. The band is constructed of very thin gauge aluminum. To attempt to fill those mounting holes by any welding process (that I know of) would probably be a disaster.

I'd put a tasteful bumper sticker over the holes - maybe something like this:

Someone else may offer a better idea.

Anyway, here are some images that may help you mount the GMC badge correctly:

The positioning of the emblem is kind of critical. The pegs have to line up with the holes in the back of the band for access to the mounting nuts.

If I remember correctly that emblem attaches with double sided tape. I don't think it is bolted on. I have one off at home but I am out of town right now.

Maybe the Chevy emblem is taped on - I have never worked with one.

A GMC badge has studs in the back and is fastened to the band with nuts.

"There's no difference between Chevy and GMC trucks" - that's what guys who drive Chevy's say.

I would suggest "Ted Nugent for president".
