The other day while driving my tranny started making a whirring sound. I know it is full of fluid because i just replaced the clutch. It has now become more of a rattle. It makes noise only when moving. clutch in/out whether it is in gear or not. any ideas as to what wore out?

If it is related to vehicle speed it may be the output bearing, if it is related to rpm it may be the input bearing. Otherwise it could be any countershaft bearing in there.

Definitely related to speed. Other than the noise it drives fine. Doesn't pop out of ear or anything weird. Is a press needed to replace the output bearing?

If all gears do it and it's related to speed I would be thinking output bearing. If only 4th gear does it, that helps you narrow it down.

Is there a set of gears connected to the output shaft that are always in contact? It seems too rhythmic to be a bearing. I could be wrong though

Well yesterday the trans went out. Nothing in any of the gears. It is now pulled apart, but i don't know what to look for. The only thing i see wrong is that i can wiggle the input shaft. i'll see if i can post a picture.

Anything seem out of the ordinary? the picture of the smaller gear at the bottom of the tranny makes noise if i spin it.
