I was wanting to know the right way to set the timing on my 87 C10 truck. Its got a 350 TBI and I had replaced the intake on it and now i just need to set timing. I know your supposed to disconnect some wire, need to know where the wire is at. I have a timing light. Didnt know know if i had to disconnect battery after i had set timing to reset computer or what. And to do i need to set timing to 0 degrees.

I think there is a brown wire with black stripe behind the dizzy that needs to be unplugged. Warm engine up and set to zero. Turn engine off, plug wire back together. Take negative cable off of the battery for approx 30 sec to reset ecu.

What GP said. I"m not positive on which wire to unplug, but you do have to disconnect something cuz if you don't, the computer will just chase you around and compensate for what changes your trying to make and then nothing changes, or the ECM detects it and can throw a code for a malfunction. Been to long for me to remember for sure now what gets disconnected.

IIRC, the connector is on the driver side of the firewall. Forget the stupid factory timing spec, the engines like 8* BTDC much better than 0*.

Yes, drivers side near the brake booster. Single tan wire with black stripe and a a weather pack connector. May have a pinch of black tape around it holding it to the main harness. Set timing to 0 degrees, which is the bottom of the deepest notch in the timing tab.
