On my 79 I plan on running 31x10.50-15 tires for a overall wider tire and higher load ratings. I plan on keeping the stock steel wheels and dog dish caps but want to run an 8" wide wheel. Three ways to solve this problem. 1) Shell out the money to buy wheel vintiques series 62. 2) Buy 15x8 wheel shells, cut centers out and weld into shells. 3) Band the stock wheels/shells to 8" wide. I have pretty much ruled out option 1 as I don't like the three hubcap bumps instead of four and the cost. I am leaning towards buying the shells (Like these), cutting my old centers out and welding them in the shells. The welding and indicating them in isn't an issue but I don't really know what backspacing to go with for an 8" wide wheel.
So the questions are:
1) Backspacing for a 15x8 front and rear
2) Run them normal or reverse the shell for a reversed look (think chrome reverse wheel)
3) Nice all terrain in 31x10.50-15
Any pictures of 15x8's would be appreciated too.
