Tri-power (3x2s) or Sniper 2 for the 350 in my C10?

I have a 3x2 intake and carbs from a ‘68 435 hp 427 Vette. I ran these carbs on my ‘70 340 Duster. I need to refresh/rebuild them as they haven’t been used in 40-years (yeah, I’m a pack-rat for hotrod parts) and I have a line on a Tri-power intake for a SBC.

FI has better gas mileage and is easier as they self correct. But the Tri-power/6-pack has the cool factor.

I’m running a Holley 770 carburetor on an Edelbrock RPM Airgap, Performer Heads, and Mallory Unilight ignition on it now.

I can buy a hotrod for the value of the Tri-power. Intake, heads, carbs, and breather all original. Nope, not selling them. I’ve seen the carbs alone going for $5k.

Not surprising. That's been a valuable setup for a long time.

TRi-power, Tri-power all the way - and PICS !!!

OMG that is the ultimate set up - 3 x 2 on a big block, either 435/427 or a 455 pontiac - AWESOME !!

The ONLY advantage to running a sniper over the tri-power setup is that if your truck got stolen, you would not be so upset ....

If you are looking at the edelbrock 3 x 2 small block manifld, I don't think it will fit the BBC carbs however. So you will need to drop the BBC in too ( with a muncie 4 speed also, of course ! ).

Of course - if you do decide to sell the set up and go FI - call me .. ! ;-)

The carbs on the 434hp 427 are the same series as the SBC, 2300 series.
The 427’s list #s are 3659 (466 CFM x 2) for the outboards and 4055-1 (350 CFM) for the center. The SBC carbs with the system are 350 CFM for the outboards and 325 CFM for the centers. That’s 1,282 CFM for the BBC carbs and 1,025 CFM for the SBC version.
Interesting is the AAR Cuda, a 340ci used the same carbs as the 440 (350 and 500s) and are the 2300 series.

Well I did it. I couldn’t decide which way to go so I put both on my truck.

They sent me a Sniper Shirt as they were out of the other Holley shirts in XL.

But here is what the new set up looks like.

I had an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap with a 770 CFM Holley, but it was sucking down the gas and I’d only get around 8 mpg. And it would stall on a hard acceleration from a stop, even after changing the jets 4 sizes smaller. The carb was too big but GM put on Quadrajet carbs that were 850 CFM and I tried two different Edelbrocks, one a 600 CFM and the other a 800 CFM) that I had but I don’t like those.

The carbs from the 427 could have worked somewhat but not satisfactory due to them having a divorced choke.

I am satisfied with the setup, but a person must know how to modify and fabricate stuff. It took about 8-10 hours to due to having to fab parts and modify the accelerator linkage.
