I love the site and classic gms. I'm wondering if this would be a good buy or if it seems too far gone? I know the previous owners.
It's an 85 Chevy than was running last year. Fuel pump and distributer cap all replaced last year too. Idk much about these older body trucks but always wanted one. Seems like everything is there, needs 1 door and a bed for sure. They're wanting $300 for it and just wondering what it might take to get it on the road, not looking to show it or anything.

Howdy!

Well, it looks like a good project. Looks like it's solid and if it can run/drive that's even better. And the asking price is about scrap value, so you can't really go wrong there.

Welcome to the forum.
If You bought that for 300, id say You did OK, especially if it will be able to start, run and drive.
It will take some work all right but it`ll be well worth what it takes to make it right.
Besides, You did that old Chevy real good by getting it moved from between the tow flugging furd products.

Haven't moved it yet but will as soon as I can haha. Thank y'all for the comments. I know this is not the correct place to have this thread I believe but I didn't see a general discussion thread, if it can be moved by admin that would be great.
But while it's still here, can you tell the kind of tank I have on it so I can try and dind a diagram or a write up on how to route lines back under the hood so I can get gas to the motor and get it started? Also, besides a Hanes manual is there another book or reference guide to build this beast?

The very best book is the factory repair/service manual.
If You have a Haineys book, thats as good as an aftermarket book as any of them. Most affer market books is incomplete and sometimes, the infurmashun We needs is not in there.
Factory buk has it all.

hardest part is gonna be to find a bed for it. lmc has all new beds but they aint cheap, sometimes you can find good deals, and if you can travel or have it shippd you definitely can find one.

The frame looks sweet and that's key.

When it comes to a restoration project - the condition of the frame is generally the go/nogo deciding factor.

As far as the gas tank and fuel system; I would assume the best. I see the fuel pump is new - give it a try.

Just dump a couple of cans of gas in it, drop in a good (fully charged) battery and crank the motor over. A can of ether might help the initial start-up process.

The gas pump is mechanical (driven off the cam). So, as long as the inlet and outlet lines are hooked up, that's it. When the engine is cranked over, gas should be sucked out of the tank and pumped up to the carburetor.

It appears that someone had enough sense to twist the gas tank fill neck hose so it pointed down. That should have kept rain water from getting in the tank.

Check the oil, make sure the coolant system is full and let er' rip!

10-4. Maybe it'll be best placed in under construction? Found those threads last night. Thanks for all the opinions.

Lol, I had already moved it earlier (from Engine/Performance to the Garage). But this works too :)
