Hi! I recently got my grandpas old 79 gmc k1500 truck for my 18th birthday. I am wanting to redo it and have a project truck over the next couple of years for me and him to spend time together. My plans are to paint matte black. redo the interior to black and custom gauges .LS3 swap with 4l80e. 2in lift with 33x12.50. I have a couple questions about where to get a new original wiring harness for the truck because the old are chewed up from critters after sitting over 10 years. Next would be if i am going to ls and 4l80e should i switch from 203 to 205 or do a conversion on the 203 and save money. Thanks!

That looks like it will be a labor of love. Being a grandpa myself, I'll bet he will cherish the time you spend on with him. Added bonus, we normally have more money than you do!

LMC Truck is a good source for restoration parts, but be carefull with wiring harness replacements. The brand Painless can be anything but, and a good restring harness can get spendy. Check the main junctions and the fuse box first, if they are in good shape you may be able to have a local auto electric shop restring it.

If you cant use your original, look for OE replacements if your looking for a true restoration. Ask questions when you call these companies.

Last, buy a true shop manual. The schematics are worth their weight in gold.
